I dont work on the mod, but I feel very vocal for 20 in the morning, so Im gunna say what I believe. Because the description of the Siege turret said it had splash damage, was slow firing but powerful when it connects, and because the people working on N.S. are pretty realism oriented: I Surmise that turrets wont necessarily hit all the time. I could be worng though.

I personally would like to see it so that they hit only every only 75% or less of the time, and as in robs story's, having them able to inflict freindly fire, this would make people not be in the line of fire and they would be much more strategic. hm...

Agreed, seems like a good number too. ABout the percentage that a decent player would hit his mark.

The way I've read it (Nice reading humbaba... you think like I do) is that the turrets will either sit in a certain position, or spin, like the turrets in the NSTR. When they see a target, they'll orient on it, and then open fire. Before they orient, they won't be able to hit you at all. After they orient, they've got a very high accuracy. I don't know if any of the aliens will be able to move fast enough to make a sentry turret to lose it's orientation, other than by ducking behind something. (Maybe the Class 4)

The siege turret will probably work in a similar fashion, the orientation just being -much- slower. So much so that a fast moving alien would never actually be locked on to unless the change in arc was very small (i.e. the alien was running straight for it on the ground. Then it just aims and fires, since it ain't moving from side to side). The Class 5 wouldn't be able to move fast enought though.

Just my thoughts.

Remember turrets are server side, which means 0 ping.

In fact i'm a big turret-hater because I hate to be killed by someone who hasnt the skill to kill me (makes sense, huh?). Turrets don't require any skill from anyone and if their shots are instant hits (and server-side&#33 then i can't evn use my skill to dodge them which makes for sucky skirmishes, very sucky.

I really thing turrets must be in the game but under certain contitions:

1- Rocket turret is perfect, aims throws a missile and if i'm good i'll dodge it and if i'm bad then i'll die.
2- Machineguh turret shouldnt fire instahit bullets but NAILS or any other type of fast (but not instant&#33 bullet. Then my dodge skill has a chance to beat the turret, but only if i'm good enough (thats what this is about, skills = alive, no skills = dead).

Obiously changing from a instahit to a fast projectile-throwing turret would requiere more balance, probably increasing the damage every bullet does but in the end things will remain the same but with a new (and interesting) statement to the game:

--> You can fight a turret if you are good enough.

BTW, siting on a corner firing explosive projectiles doing indirect damage or strafeing periodicly shooting 1 or 2 bullets every time the turret is in your line of sight doesn't requiere any skill at all and its PLAIN BORING, keep that in mind

What about a related subject, the overwait mode for marines? After all, they'll be roughly the same (sit and fire). Will they be slightly more accurate?

Hmm maybe make a delay so its possible to outrun the tracking BUT if you stop thats just enough time for the turret to nail you into a green puddle of ooze.(ie the turret is always shooting one step behind you so every time you slowdown/stop you get hit but not die.)

Huan, u really got to know that ping doesn't mean that much, atal, even if the server was run on a plan cable it would work just as well as serverside, ya hear?
• LotisLotis Join Date: 2002-01-25 Member: 77Members
Thats the plan stan it takes a few secounds to lock on like he said than it fires but hopefully by then you will behind somthing or it will bee too late for the poor sap of a turret.

No im talking about a constant dely, but not that large of one. Then you could actualy go 1 on 1 with a turret and it would be fun.

Like I and Lotis said.. I think that's the way it works.

Course, a turret shouldnt be totally avoidable. It shouldn't, I think, be passable by a single bob whos quick enough. If the turret can't keep bobs out, what good is it. Bearing in mind that the mapper is going to provide a plethora of vents and "flanking corridors". We cant take away the solid backbone territory of the marines so easily. It's gota be able to put up a decent defense. Course that all depends on how cheap and easy they'll be to build. If turrets are a dime a dozen, than it would be good to require a grid of them to keep out the enemy. Guess I'll just have to wait and see.

I like the idea of a dime a dozen, it would add more stratagy to placment of multiple ones to trap the alien in the crossheirs. That way a more exp commander would help out more on placment and a new one wouldnt use all his RP. Kinda reminds me of the laser turrets in total anihillation.

I would have to dissagree with you guys in my opinion it would be better to have few more powerful turrets than tons of little ones. I can only imagine how frustraing a hunder beeping noises and than your death would be

i think thats why there making different types of turrets so we can choose .

True, but it might add a little bit of terror to the alien side. They seem to get off easy in the terror department. Whether or not this is because theyre walking, talking(er . . hissing) manifestations of fear, I dont know. However, the turrets would be weakened considerabley. All that is really a matter of playtesting. Most things are, in the end.

I never thought about the tureets much, but now you're making me think..............

*thinks hard*

I really think lag is going to be a problem with the turrets, as said before they have ping 0, when you lag a lot, ther is just no way of escaping those turrts atleast not the light ones, the heavy ones have a slower rate of fire so you could be able to slip through the blasts....

Hmm i dunno, i just hope there will be good servers, i live in belgium and i don't think ne1 has ever heard of ns over here.

*sigh*

hope this thing gets big, so i can say a few years later, I played from beta 1, yes sirry al the way from beta1 to 1.5.
and then all the others: wow you're so 1337.
*blush*
