So I have played games with this inject-yourself-with-foreign-DNA-to-get-their-abilities thing before, and in some scenarios, it can be a little OP. I think it would be wise to make sure that the effects are only temporary, and perhaps refine-able. For example, we could harvest DNA and keep it in vials or some form of "potion/flask" that you could use at another time, with temporary effects.
