Diet Variation

For a bit I kept seeing posts about how they were going to introduce mandatory variations in diet, where the player would have to eat not just vegetable matter, and not just meat, but both. And I think it's a great idea, but I still haven't seen it implemented or hinted at in the trello. As a suggestion to implement this idea, I would like to see diminishing returns on each food type. Every time you eat something vegetable based, it restores 1 less on the food and water meters,... Until you eat some meat. And each time you eat a fish, the next fish you eat restores 1 less on the food and water meters until you eat a vegetable. So when you eat a marblemelon, the first one restores 22/15, the second one 21/14, the third one 20/13, and if you then eat a lantern fruit, it gives 2/0, and the lantern fruit after that actually gives +1/-1.
Early game would still be viable with the creepvine resetting your fish diminishing returns, and it would add a fun dynamic the whole game that has been talked about on and off for a while now.
Just a suggestion.

And if you make it even MORE complicated, it crossed the line of complication for the sake of complication, without adding any interesting gameplay.
Can you explain why you feel this is complicated? There have been foods that were considered to be overpowered, and rather than see the Reginald or the marblemelon nerfed next, I thought this was a simple solution. A linear diminishing returns with a reset button seems fairly simple to me.
Regarding the opinion that the game shouldn't force a dietary variety like that, I feel it would add a small level of challenge to the game, without making things impossible at the beginning. As I said, forcing the player to eat a variety of nutrients has been on and off of the discussion boards several times. It makes sense that you can't live indefinitely without the variety of both plant and animal nutrients in your diet. It's not like we have soy or beans. I suppose the koosh could be fungal in nature, and provide the necessary protiens, but eating nothing but the same fruit over and over again really shouldn't be an effective long term diet.
THAT system isn't complicated. Just annoying. If there were even more rules to factor in vegetariansim, they would be contrived and not make much sense. And it would not add any real gameplay value.
Forcing people to switch to meat is going to annoy some people, probably. Forcing people to switch FROM meat could be annoying in a couple scenarios.
The varying food/water values are pretty good at making me switch it up, but frequently in a the Cyclops, I just can't be bothered to switch it up much, and I use freedom a lot as it is, just because food is a little annoying.
Let's just go with "the bioengineered plants have all the nutrients we need" and "the fabricator cooks up all the nutrients we need too" and roll with it.
