Imagine watching four robotic arms placing and melding pieces together while a large 3D materials printer spits out parts for the arms to use. You watch over the course of a few minutes as the Cyclops gets literally built before your eyes. You place all the needed components into a special container which is much like a storage locker. Then you go to the menu screen and tell the machine what you want to build. The printer starts of and pieces of submarine begin being placed by robotic arms while other robotic arms weld, meld and bond the pieces together. The submarine is built from the bottom up and soon the thing gets painted and the yard/dock sinks part way to release the sub to the water. The player dives in and enters his/her new Cyclops/Seamoth/etc. The shipyard remains in the low position when not in use.
Something like this.
Shipyard is built in two parts. First the 'Shipyard build kit' which is a metal box with a large storage area.
The Shipyard Built Kit requires the following recipe:
4x titanium.
1x wiring kit.
1x computer chip.
1x glass.
1x battery.
Once that is built, the player places it on the surface and then places into the Shipyard Build Kit the following items.
10x titanium.
4x copper wires.
2x wiring kit.
2x advanced wiring kit.
1x enameled glass.
2x glass.
2x quartz.
2x power cell.
Then clicks the on button and the Shipyard builds itself.
The shipyard can be relocated by using small onboard thrusters. Once placed it remains in place using its thrusters and an anchor. Shipyard also has built in solar panels and can be used to charge vehicles or power cells.
-Alternatively, the Shipyard could be towed by the Cyclops to relocate and simply anchor itself in place.
Shipyard should be 68 meters long and 50 meters wide. 4 or 6 robotic arms can reach down into the yard to build or repair vehicles/rockets or any other vehicles or objects which may come into the game.
>>This could actually change the way bases are built by building the components here and having the player use the constructor tool to levitate the components and move them into place; where the constructor tool would finish the manufacture by building the attach point.
Also possibly could act as a launch pad for rockets. Maybe that way we could put some satellites in orbit and have a GPS.
