Advice about Lava Larva

I swear those things suck. I mean they really REALLY suck. However, the one thing I know that sucks worse than them is Megamaid from Spaceballs the Movie (and she blows too).

So how often should I remove them from the hull of my vehicles? Don't want to be doing that all the time... And once you're out of the lava zones will they continue to follow you everywhere?

I've had this idea that you could actually scare the larvae away by using your cyclops horn. That would be quicker, and it'd give the horn a use for once.
