Phase Gates In Main Base ?

Hello everyone..

Since Aliens can use phase gates, should U really build them in main spawn ?
Or just outside in a turret farm ??

Normally the main base ( whether its start spawn or a overrun hive ) has the turrets and defences at its perimeter, and a lot of commanders drop the phase gate in the middle of the base..

Is it a really good idea ??

What are your thoughts ?

    from my experiance as marine, this happens alot and quite too often. a smart alien will take advantage over this if the comm is not that experianced. most comms place phase gates in a corner at main spawn without any turret cover and even with turret cover...can it protect against an onos coming through? when pplz build phase gates, they think about how its gonna increase speed and mobility but never think that aliens can go through also. from my kharaa side of playing...i've never reallie went through many marine portals. i usually destory them or wait for unsuspecting fresh marines.

    From a Kharaa perspective, I never go through phase gates (willingly). First, I would likely be blown to bits by turrets, I don't know where I'll end up, and lastly I would alert the marine team to the fact that they have a relatively insecure phasegate, which would prompt them to come and check out the situation. I prefer to just destroy the phasegate rather than wait for marines or go through it myself.

    Then again, I usually take on that role when doing skulk-minibase-destroying, which can be very fun.

    As long as you have 3+ turrets surrounding your phase gates then you'll be fine. I've recently realised how utterly valuable phase gates are & they are now at a higher build priority than turrets when securing a new resource node now.. think about it - marines are better than turrets & the phase gate has a lot more health than a turret factory AND it costs less!     Just stick a few mines around it, let the turrets take care of the rest
