Assigning slots

in Subnautica on Consoles
Why is it that when we assign equipment to slots we can not choose what slot to put it in, it just go into the first slot and pushes whatever is in the last slot out. I know it might be difficult since we do not have keyboards to assign them to with numbers but maybe dragging the item into the slot instead to assign it (just a thought i wanted to get out there).

    I agree, I really like to keep certain tools in specific spots. A prompt like "assign to a slot" and a cursor/highlight that snaps over the hotbar for easy managing would be great.

    Something like how we navigate the crafting screens would be nice for assigning tools to the hotbar

    If they just added an "unequip" function i would be happy. That would allow me to manage my inventory with relative ease. Currently i use storage lockers to move my hotbar items around.

    Isn't that what the holster button does? Up on the d pad.
