Flare gun

For lighting up dark places at a distance and for making sharks shart themselves, either way this is one of the items that most life rafts in real life carry so why wouldn't there be one on the life pod?

you could even make an event where you might see a flare shoot off in the distance and find a dead survivor and find the flare gun there ready to be scanned.
