Before Subnautica...

Before games like Subnautica...

Before games like Dead Space...

The year was 1985.

A Company called Atari Corporation released the first model of the Atari ST home computer; the Atari ST 520.

Then came the game company Psygnosis.

They released a Game called Infestation. A survival / exploration Game, like yet utterly unlike Subnautica.

Your character is named Kal Solar. Your mission: investigate a Lunar Colony gone dark; a Colony infested with deadly alien life.

Your only view of the world was through the Helmet of your Pressure Suit; and like Subnautica you had to keep track of your Food - provided via food canisters that fed an intravenous system - and Oxygen, provided through Oxygen Canisters; no easy surface-to-breathe here.

Of course... you could always remove your suit's helmet. Just... don't do it outside--or in certain rooms. Your head might explode from rapid depressurization...

In addition to this, you needed to keep track of your suit's Power and Radiation Level, too, as well as the Cyanide Canisters you needed to destroy the Alien Eggs. Don't touch, mind you; they secrete deadly resin that kills on contact. Oh, and don't forget: never breathe in the Cyanide Gas that you drop to kill them...

You folks might find this game slow or boring, its graphics primitive, and there's barely any audio at all. But that was the point. The near-oppressive silence, the awful feeling of claustrophobia and isolation. Protected only by your suit; one wrong move, one wrong turn--and you are dead. Better hurry up, now; the Reactor at the Colony's core is malfunctioning, and the temperature is slowly rising...
This is the Amiga title music, which sounds great;
the game was released for both systems at the time.
