Potato plant dropping Ming seeds

The Chinese Potato plant on the Floater Island, just outside the Abandoned Seabase, drops Ming Seeds instead of Potato Plant samples, when you harvest it with a knife. I haven't checked the one up in the mountain top planter or the ones in cliffside forest planters yet.
EDIT: I checked, and only that one plant does that. The others produce Chinese Potatoes when you grab them by hand, and are simply destroyed when you hack them with knife. The one that was dropping the Ming Seeds eventually died/vanished when I had cut it 5-6 times to get the Ming Seeds.
