I can see sunlight rays through solid rock

I reported this with F8 in game, but wanted to log it here too. I play PC, Stable, Survival mode.

The sunlight making the 'rays of light' thing near the kelp forest and such looks great, but its kind of strange that it penetrates solid rock. In my mine shaft project, I'm digging straight down vertically, next to the Lava Geyser which is SW of the Aurora in the Safe Shallows. When I'm down in the mine shaft, there is no direct route back to the surface, but the sunlight can be clearly seen penetrating the rock roof and walls, illuminating the shaft down to about 200m or so, just as if there were no rocks above me.
