That sound that IGP was talking about just before he saw the tree, I'm guessing that's the sound made by the "surface" of the brine of the river, and that's freakin' cool!
It's a shame that we won't be seeing that 'Phantom Leviathan', but hey, we still have plenty of other Fauna and Flora to mess with :P
It was definitely one of the coolest looking concept arts
Easy. Limited time and resources. There are a million cool things we could add, and would LOVE to add, to Subnautica, but we need to make some hard choices about where to spend our time, if we ever want to actually ship this game.
Damn...
Maybe some sort of tribute or nod to it in the game?
I always find that a world is more immersive if you leave something to the imagination. You could allude to its existence somewhere out there without actually showing it in game.
It could be like the Bigfoot of Planet 4546B, maybe there's something there, maybe there isn't... we'll never know.
Maybe have it mentioned in one of the PDA notes?
Normally I wouldn't care as much about a feature/creature being cut out due to budget or time constraints, but the "Phantom Leviathan" was one of the more popular ones among the fan base. And for good reason too, whoever came up with the design for it deserves praise.
It is easily one of the best looking creatures in Subnautica.

Once the game ships v1.0, then start gradually tinkering and adding the extra cool things; after all, even though 'retail buyers' will get what they see as v1.0 - a released game - to us, v1.0 really doesn't mean anything. To us early access folks, "1.0" is just another stable build... whilst the experimental keeps rollin' rollin' rollin'...

Keeps my hope up; after all, it's unlikely they'll just say "There, finished. The big 1.0. Let's fix a few more existing bugs and then never touch the game again. It's good enough as is." and then... Well, then never add to it again. Sure, there's the possibility of a co-op feature after the game's polished up, but there's so much more that could possibly be added in down the road, when they do have the time and resources to do so.
No guarantees, but it'd be great to see some items that had to be shelved so they could get the game finished, be added in once the game's finished
As far as updates after V1, we certainly hope to keep supporting SN after post release. But at the moment we are focused on just getting V1 out the door, so haven't had time to have many discussions about plans beyond that (though we certainly have some ideas).
