I have had this though circulating my mind ever since the 'crab snake' was released. Why not add in actual crabs. Small scuttling creatures that move along the sea floor and maybe even crawl on your base. Isee real potential and creative thinking in this idea, you could have crabs with see through bodies or crabs that are friendly. There are a lot of possibilities.

And a type of hermit grab could have some potential.. If you look at it a a crashpod kinda thing.. Once the crab leaves it shell for a new one, we could possibly find other new resource type. Not sure what.. But at least theres the option lol
I made this sketch awhile ago. It's like a big hermit crab that uses scrap metal for protection instead of a shell.
Thanks! It's really easy to post pictures. All you have to do is upload them somewhere else, copy the image url, and then use the Attach image file option on the top of the comment editor and press enter.
Nice handwriting and I love the idea of them being full on scavengers that possible steal scrap from the stalkers.
Taking a page from Monster Hunter here, but what about a crestacean that uses Reaper skulls for its 'shell'?
(Look up the Hermitaurs and Shen Gaoren to see what I mean)
Why do they have to be little?

The Bulwark Crab
A big sea floor crawling crab with an enormous spiky armored forearm claw that it uses to defend itself from shark attacks. Friendly to things it doesn't register as a threat, so it won't attack you unless you hit it with your Seamoth, or stab it with a knife. They could live in the Grassy Plateaus, creating Sandstone Deposits as they move about looking for underground prey, similar to the Sea Treaders. They would normally punch the ground, disturbing Sandsharks, and creating Sandstone chunks as they dig for their food.
Though they live in the Red Plains/Grassy Plateaus, they could have stalker teeth embedded in their shield claws, and could become friendly once they're removed, like when you pull the thorn out of a bear's paw.
Like a big friendly one of these dudes
