Creature Eggs don't hatch in creative?

So, I'm playing some Subnautica on my Xbox. I'm in creative and I get this boss idea for a base. Start making it. Put in a large aquarium. Grab some fish and found some eggs. Get a few seeds. Threw them all in the tank and viola. Beauty.
All is going... Swimmingly.. I check on my tank like 5 minutes later and all the eggs are moving and pulsing and crap... So I think, COOL! BABIES!
Well, a few real time hours go by and it's now 5:30am. Frick. So I'm looking over my base one more time before hitting the hay and I see my creature eggs haven't hatched and are no longer moving..
So I was wondering if creature eggs aren't like all there yet? Or do they not work in creative? Did I somehow not keep the tank at just the perfect temperature with just the right amount of light surrounded by the ideal environment for the eggs to hatch?
