"I have the biological power!"

... s'cuse me; I gotta go count my reinforcement panels while I wait for the reactor-food to rot...

That is definitely sexy. Does the fuel actually have to be rotting?

Was playing around with this and the Nuclear Reactor and you can put a Bioreactor surrounding by Water Filtration Machines and have enough area to move around, but there is no room to move around with a Nuclear Reactor surrounded by Water Filtration Machines.

Seems it has to be rotting or you can't even put it into the reactor.

I'd kinda prefer to be able to just put any food into the reactor and it either doesn't start making energy until the food rots, or it commences rotting on being placed inside.

Having to wait around with an empty reactor and a pile of fresh food is kind of annoying.

Yeah. The Bio-Reactor! Brand new! Spherical! Shiny! .... and still utterly useless.

I always thought it would take any plant food and not only rotten one. Now if only food would rot in containers or the reactor take non rotten food it would be good.

It's tight, but I managed to jump through the gaps.

I stuck some fruit in a wall locker and it seems to have rotted in there.

Still needlessly annoying you can't wait for it to rot in the bioreactor.

Just got another few updates to experimental; this seems to have been fixed. We should be able to throw any organic food in there now, rotten or not. I have 300 solar, plus 100 backup from the Bio-Reactor. Hmm...

The Bio-Reactor has no sounds, yet. Hopefully, the Devs 'll put in a really nice greenie muncher / mulcher sound effect for when it chews up the Creepvine or whatever we have for its 'food' farm.

I'd like it if the bioreactor also accepted dead fish. Not so much for the power, but I need somewhere to deposit all the rotting peepers near my base that I accidentally ran down with the seamoth.

It also doesn't make sense that the Bio-Reactor only accepts rotting food.

Bio reactors work by capturing Methane gas from decompositioning bio matter stored in a chamber and harnessing it to create power,so you should be able to place fresh food inside without needing to wait till it rots.

The devs have stated that the reason for this is due to the fact that it is extremely easy to obtain plants and fish,so it would probably be too easy to get power with the growboxes and aquariums.I think a way to fix this would be to keep the rotting food mechanic.Just allow us to be able to play food in a device that either makes it rot a bit faster or just allow us to put food in that won't be turned into energy until it rots.

Of course its a way to make the game harder and stretch the gameplay time but I don't like the idea that you've to kill animals for energy.
And when you have a fishtank to breed one species you can bypass the fact that you've to kill the not respawning fauna in your environment.
This fact makes the dev's argument senseless.
But you have to kill the animals anyway. A behavior like on Earth. A really undesirable behavior...

    Just my2cents

Edit: It seems the devs has changed this in one of the last updates. The bioreactor can now fill with any organic mass. Thumbs up.

The dev's point is that since you can farm unlimited food and plants with the Growboxes and Aquariums, you will have an unlimited source of energy as you will be able load it up with 20 plants and fish from your aquarium which would make all the other reactors obsolete.
It isn't because they want to stretch gameplay time.I don't think making you wait 1 minute for food to rot is "stretching gameplay"."Stretching gameplay" would be making you, say, craft a key to open the Emperor's prison l,although i do agree that it is adding unnecesary waiting times to the game.

Also,i dont get what you're trying to say at the end.Killing is wrong? in a game? You do know that you can use the growboxes to farm plants that can be used as a fuel source for the bio reactor?

    Yes,i,myself like these new changes.

Pretty sure it doesn't just take rotten food. I put in some creepvine samples that weren't rotting (old and decomposing), and it took them.

@DefectiveDelfin: And another reply to you: Its maybe better for you to read my whole post before you act like a defender.
I've state my opinion and also I've written the reasons for it. So if you'll read my post complete and understand what I've posted you'll see that your questions are all answered.

And please don't forget: Not everyone play Subnautica in the same way like you. So if I don't want to kill any animals in this game, use just the solar cells and the bio reactor with rotten plants whats wrong with it?

Yeah address my points dont you?I dont want to start an argument.

You state the reason why the devs points are bad.

I explain to you why they aren't

I dont see how you address my points. All i see if you making baseless accusations.Do you care to elaborate further on how you address my points?

Your post just seems like a cluster of unrelated ideas all bundled together.Whats up with the "killing is bad" comment? Its a game.Whats up with the "everyone plays differently"?Its a forum.Im not even asking you to play my way,im just explaining why you are wrong.

Heres is what i got from your post:
    • Killing is bad because...human behaviour?
    • The devs are stretching gameplay

I dont think that addresses my points which are
    • Explanations on why they are,in fact not stretching the game
    • The devs reasoning on their decision to only use rotten food
    • Why killing isn't wrong (its a game FFS)

So you don't want a to start an argument but you do it. So I want to explain you what I think.

For me are the reasons for a harder gameplay following:
To make the gameplay longer and put the player in the way as the developers want as the player plays the game.
Also the fact that the devs split some crafting things in more parts its a sign of that.

But now two questions to you: Where is my statement about the gameplay streching? And what will be wrong if I don't use the bio reactor and use solar cells instead in my whole gameplay?

Also your question why I don't want kill the animals in my environment I've already answered. I don't want kill them when its not neccesary. Should be very easily to understand. Also for you.

"Should be very easily to understand. Also for you."

Wow, you're really in touch with your inner deeply unpleasant personality quirk...

    #1. It's a game.
#2. Games are supposed to be fun.
#3. Do I really have to come out and explain #3?

Midnight, you make some good points, but they get so covered by the rest of the foul excreta that it becomes hard to see them. As for your question about being forced to use the bioreactor...Well...you're not forced. Play how you want, that's the point.

All I can think of us that maybe you don't have enough RL stuff to do...? I have a chore list involving heavy lifting and cleaning supplies if you need an outlet for all that extra energy...

This isn't actually a "no killing" game, I mean jeez I get killed all the time! Fish eat other fish. The devs just refused to give us a Chaingun and turn Subnautica into the Jaques Cousteau Rail Shooter...um...maybe your'e not old enough to know who that is...

I'm so glad the devs don't actually suck as bad as our friend here thinks they do, or this would be an awful game...

Is there maybe another game he'd like better, with a forum and everything...? Just not The Long Dark, cos I'm over there too...

Thanks guys, I hadn't messed with the bioreactor...I played a bit with it and I think it's definitely a power option that adds...flavor...

I do wonder if the devs will arrange things story wise to make you use all the options, or leave it up to the player. Once you get deep and aren't near anything warm enough for the thermal doohickey, you really only have bio and nuclear, yes?

Also, what's the current generator do?

Midnight, fella (or fella-ette) I'm here to read up and enjoy the community of a game I really enjoy and one of my personality flaws is that I tend to react to the presence of sheer rudeness with sarcasm and ridicule...I'm really trying to work on that, and I'd see a mental health professional for it but I'm kinda too busy playing Subnautica and doing RL stuff. Sooo...maybe....chill?

If you don't, I'll chase you with the magic ocean pony I've demanded the devs make me in the game. Also magical rainbow sparkle pony poo will work great in the bioreactor, it's a win-win...go tell them I want a pony.

Or maybe I'll just have to live with a hot pink and purple cyclops, and name my seamoth Mr. Sparklepants.

@yomama: If you've also a magic ocean pony for me let us ride together on a sparkle rainbow to the sunset behind the Aurora. To a place were we can hide. To a place where no Delfin's are defectived. Build up a new base. A new life. A hot pink and purple cyclops just for us. For you and me a hot looking seamoth powered by magical rainbow sparkle pony poo o:) And before you get crazy with happiness: Of course, separate bedrooms :D

I really appreciate that you'd suggest seperate bedrooms...I mean, excessive nighttime flatulence is nothing to be ashamed of, you're not alone in your suffering...

So the thing about magical ponies is that EVERYONE GETS ONE. Nobody gets picked last for gym class in Magic Pony Land.

I gotta say, the separate bedrooms zing was clever and made me laugh at the end if a wicked long day. Thanks, Midnight!

Sure no problem with your offer for peace. :) Take one of the magic ocean pony and ride to us behind the Aurora.
There is one free place with a fresh pillow in the bedroom of Yomama. ;) But attention: He was said something about excessive nighttime flatulence.
Cya next morning with tears in your eyes. :'(
