A somewhat new player

Heya fellows & Devs

First of all, hell of a game, enjoying every bits of it.
However, as a merely confused soul as myself, can we please get a in-game map, perhaps a map you unlock bit by bit by exploring, but something, I know North, South etc, but other then that, I cant find shit down there

Secondly: A question, I started a new game and went thru the ditch-cut scene, about 1-2 hours later I get a general distress call on the radio from Lifepod 17, since my own lifepod got number 5 or 6 I believe, is there other survivors on the planet to find ?

Third: Some kind of pressurized system would be nice aswell, since we can build airlocks now. When you heading out you have to close the inner door to be able to pressurize the airlock and fill it with water, same goes for when you entering the airlock.

Keep up the good work Devs.
Best Regards

    Welcome aboard Captain! :)

A couple of potential problems with having a map: First, it couldn't be just a 2D map as in many other games since there are a multitude of caves and whole new zones stacked vertically. That might be difficult to show clearly, including the interconnections. Second, it might make the small size of the world a bit too obvious.

But I have no idea why a futuristic survival pod doesn't have friggin' compass as standard equipment! :p

(Edit: There is a rudimentary map on the Wiki which can be handy when you're first starting out: http://subnautica.wikia.com/wiki/Biomes )

About other possible survivors -- do you really want it spoiled before you explore thoroughly?
At the moment you can find evidence of other survivors, and not just from your ship, but no actual folks to interact with. However, that may change as the devs add to the storyline.

Your pressurized airlock idea would add to the realisim, but I'm not sure it would add to the fun. I go in and out of my base a lot. Having to wait for pressure equalization, while creating a more immersive experience, might get tedious after a while.

Look in your game directory at Subnautica/SNUnmanagedData/Build18/biomeMap_1024.png
it's a map of the game and its updated with the game... and use this a reference to the different areas.

    Heya and thanks.

    - I can see why the map may cause some problem due to terrain, but perhaps some kind of orbital map, on some pictures of earth you'll see reefs, craters, depth quite easy depending on quality, the caves itself wouldnt show up on the map as they are obviously hidden under rocky bottoms, but some kind of topography over the bottom would be enough.
I want something like this: noaanews.noaa.gov/stories2012/images/delgada%20canyon%20image.jpg

    - I'm ok with the spoiler since we have no idea where to find other people yet, if/when they add just that feature I'm sure they wouldnt reveal the location anyway

    - About the pressurized airlock, it could be optional, since you dont need it now, as you say it just adds realism to those who wants it.

    - And then, give me some storms and a temperate climate in my base

Heya, thanks I gonna look in to that, but I still want some kind of 3d map ingame.

    Pretty much like this:

For your map problems, the best I can offer is building some beacons to mark important locations. Like "Home Base" and the names of biomes.

I've been thinking a little more about the map idea.
We could have 3 types of maps.

1: A ocean topography map as I linked above, that shows, reefs, abysses, ridges etc. This would be the main map.

2: An thermal map, that shows temperated areas, which dark blue or even black would be far below 0°C(the arctic biome) and dark red would be extremely hot(vulcano biome).

3: A current map, a map that show currents, strong currents can indicate underwater cave systems, abysses or large underwater ravines.

Perhaps I letting my imagination run away with me, off to playing Subnautica again

Quite a long time ago there was an official statement that no maps ingame will come, but for better orientation you can build a compas, for that you need to find magnetite, purple (?) ore that can be found at cliffwalls near aurora and other places.
And I`d advise you to build beacons which you can setup at interesting locations to find easily back there. Once you don`t need the place anymore you can pick up the beacon and use it elsewhere. They can be named too.

yeah, it would be nice... I think that is where the scanner room will come into play. eventually we will be able to see a map of known/explored areas from the center console.

I have another question about a problem I discovered in-game.

I have 2 base complexes about 30-40 meters apart, with a corridor between the 2 parts, when I save the game in one part of the complex and then load the game later on I cant seem to open the bulkhead doors in just that part of the complex, but I can open them all on the other side and vise versa. Anyone else got that problem ?

I've tried a few solutions like:
    - Build a small separate base, open the door in there and then go back to my original base.
    - Remove the bulkhead door and rebuild it again.

But nothing seems to work, for now I have removed all my bulkheads.
