Are footsteps (in base) too loud?

Voted "just right" but it's mostly a matter of personal preference - I like to hear footsteps loud and clear, especially since the in-base sound got updated to a new, much better one.

If the sound's volume is problematic, however, I think the best solution would be to add a volume slider to it in game options, many games offer that possibility...

For my point it's just right as it is. I suppose confined environments surrounded by water sound like that :)

That's what I like about it, it gives a sort of creepy effect.

very creepy effect.... but I can live with it.... just not fond of the feeling of isolation I keep getting.

Seeing as you're marooned on an alien planet with almost no hope of rescue, that's probably an appropriate feeling to be having.

The sound of my walking has always driven me nuts. I think it's way too sudden, each step sounds like i'm wearing lead boots. I think the sound should be replaced with something a little "softer".

I'm not sure. Now you've made me think of it they are more prominent than I'd like. But I tend to walk very softly (in the real world) so am accustomed to silence.

I suppose it being the future and all, you'd think they'd have figured out how to make quiet shoes and or floor surfaces.

For me they are so loud as to be immersion breaking. My daughter (4) actually covers her ears sometimes when I first enter a base, because it is so loud compared to the rest of the game.

That actually got me thinking. I play on experimental exclusively, so I have no idea what the situation is currently on stable, BUT... on experimental, a few builds ago, there was indeed a problem with footstep sound. When entering the base, until the first use of ladder/fabricator/etc the sound was different from the standard one. Very different. It was like an elephant stomping around an empty room - obnoxiously loud, with an ear splitting echo. After using anything inside the base, the sound would return to normal. I've always assumed this was a bug and I reported it as such at some point.

Currently (again, talking about experimental) there is a brand new footstep sound actually resembling rubber-clad feet on insulated metal. It's soft, even, and without an echo, and I really love it. So, if the poll was about that "bugged" sound.... then yes, it definitely needed to be fixed. And it has been.

Voted "way too loud", but I mean specifically the sound @Calarand77 has described. It's downright scary when it happens.

Maybe we'll get the ability to build carpet out of fibre mesh? Oh, and curtains. I'm thinking... pastels!

I'm serious about the carpet though. I'm just thinking that it'd be nice.

Carpet in an undersea habitat... Hmmm. Every time I come through the lock I'm dripping water on the floor, so I'd be worried about mold and mildew. BUT the idea behind the carpet, of acoustic dampening, is fine! I'd like to see a craftable sound-absorbing ceiling tile. Put enough of them up there and the room might get completely anechoic. I'd make the tiles out of creep fiber.
