Language of the Gods...
Does anyone use the Kharaa communucation options, other than the chuckle that is? I remember reading that the developers were planning on putting alot of time into this to mimick actual predatory animal sounds. I think it would be pretty cool if something evolved (pardon the retarded joke) from the fledgling grunts we have now, to something that could become extremely useful in-game.
Maybe some of the sounds could produce a short text message on the hive sight, alerting other players as to whats going on. This would eliminate having to use team chat during dire circumstances.
For example: You are a chubby gorge. You are merrily building setting up defenses for a hive. Your fat hampster-like self is all alone. All of a suuden you hear hard rubber contacting metal in a rythmic pattern. Now you can...
A) Go into team chat and type "I might need some help here, boys. We got multiple incoming at second hive.
OR
B) Go into popup menu, goto "Need Backup" and select position "My Location" (short, bright circle apears on hive sight)
If worse comes to worse, with choice A, you get chat fragged. With Choice B, you let go of mouse 2 (If thats what you use for popup menu) and waddle your fat gorge behind outta there. Plus you get the benefit of not having to use that damned terrans language to communicate with your brethren.
This is just an example of some extras that can be included. Some more could be...
- Found Res Node
- Attack at my loc!
- Defend my loc
- Need OC/DC at my loc
- Need Beer/Cuervo at my loc
I know, at least for me, that the popup menu becomes very easy to use after a short amount of time, and when I find myself typing the same thing 20 or 30 times a game, an extended Kharaa comm system could be a great benefit.

C) Have common chat phrases bound to keys, along with the Kharaan vocalizations.
eg:
bind h "say_team Attacking Marine Spawn!; wait; impulse #"
D) Mash that voicecomm button and go "Oh (obscenity), four marines storming Computer Core! Get the (bleep!) back here NOW!"
If D cannot apply, go buy a freakin' microphone. (Headsets 0wn j00.)

One message that would be the most useful of all for a skulk would be -heal me! I hate to have to type heal 30 times for a gorg to notice me, and then when they actually do they never heal up your armour.

ummm...check the growls on your RBM, to the right and up i think... the 'need healing' vocalization i use all the time
For kharaa, lerk gotta umbra the fade, while gorge set up shop, etc.

Yesterday, I would have agreed with you.
Today, however, we have been saved from unmuteability here.
I don't use voice comm too often cause by Barry White voice makes all the little kids scared (or all the women too turned on to play).
(Actually, using voice comm just sets me up as joke fodder for my roomate)
Didn't I just say something along those lines about the codec?
Yes, some people tend to speak into their mics, rather than past them, which means air from their breath causes turbulence noise.
