Hey guys, I bought Subnautica during the recent Steam Sale and really like it so far! (not that I've made it very far yet, lol!)

I've been reading a bit and understand the game is considered early access - I understand what early access means as I am a Star Citizen backer from the very beginning.

One question I have after reading up on Subnautica a bit this morning is regarding the ecosystem. My takeaway is that eventually fish/ plants become "extinct" after "harvest" them? Is this correct? I read that ecosystem balance was planned, but not implemented due to time constraints. So just to make sure I am understanding this correctly, fish and plants eventually become extinct and will not respawn?

Yeah i'm not sure too if this has been planned. If someone here know more ^^

An "ecosystem" is not planned per the subnautica roadmap. That's not to say there will be no ways to repopulate - the farming update addressed this some, and I expect UWE to do more minor changes to address this in the future.

I guess we need to practice "responsible surviving".

With one or more large aquariums you can breed fish to eat, and with grow beds you can plant seeds and harvest food (the Hanging Fruit Tree is especially useful) so there's no need to completely strip the environment of all critters.

Mind you, I wouldn't mind some species going extinct. Biters can bite the big one as far as I'm concerned.

Sure with a two-staged aquarium full of peepers you can easily farm food but after hours ingame there are many less fishes in the world of Subnautica, apparently when you release some fishes they disapear after a few moment so for now eggs can give you creatures for your aquariums but you can't repopulate ( )

The biggest culprit is stalkers - which eat basically as many as they can all the time.
