Overheating issues?

Hi, just recently purchased Subnautica and I noticed that my r9 290x graphics card overheats tremendously (98°C) on this game even on minimal settings 720p.
I'm running:
Windows 10
i5 4670k 4.4ghz
Asus r9 290x 4gb
16gb DDR3 2400
Subnautica Version: 29160 Feb-2016

I know that this game is still in development and probably unoptimized, but does anyone have any solutions for this overheating issue? I tend to clean my pc every 3 months so dust/cable management is definitely not an issue. I know that the 290x is a 'hot' card but never have I seen it run past even 80°C on hard to run games @2560x1080. I've also already uninstalled and reinstalled my graphics drivers, but no luck :(

Thanks

Are you running any program to adjust your graphics card fans speed ?

I use MSI afterburner on the GTX 460 I have it overclocked and stable. 1920x1080
(not the card of choice but the card my wallet picked) lol
My temps after hours in game stay around 58c and cool down to 33c idling.
I made the changes below just for SubNaautica.
I adjusted the fan speed to 75% at 45c and at 60c it is running near max at 95% fan or 3800 RMPs.

Also like you, I try and keep my PC clean of dust.

Yep. Using Msi afterburner as well. I haven't overclocked the card, but I use it adjust fanspeed and monitor my gpu. Nothing really helps my card. I think this issue has to do more with the game itself as I have no heating issues with any other game such as gta v or heavily modded skyrim.

Sounds like you may be right, this PC runs a heavily modded Skyrim also. I am holding out hope that the devs will get it all worked out in the end before release.
