Game feels really choppy

Hi!
I've played ~10 hours of subnautica before the farming update hit without any problems whatsoever.
A few days ago, however, when I've decided to try out the new stuff in the update, my game started to feel really choppy despite having over 90 FPS.
I've tried changing the quality options, I've tried to play with and without the windowed mode, I've tried setting V-sync to 1 - which solved the problems a bit but it still felt quite choppy, I've tried verifying the files in steam and also reinstalling the game. I've tried making a new save file, everything without success.
The game is playable but it's not really a pleasant experience.
My GPU is Nvidia GeForce GTX 980 Ti.
Is there anything I could do to fix this?
Thanks.
