Textures failing to load in linux sometimes

Also a bunch of the player textures didn't load so.. LaPalida for instance played lerk and chased me and all I could see was the shooting effect from her when she used it and hear her, kind of hard to win a fight like that

I'm running Linux Mint 17.3 64bit
Cinnamon 2.8.6
Kernel 3.19.0-32-generic
core i7-4790k
16gb ram
850 evo 500gb ssd
and a geforce gtx 980 ti (driver 352.63) not sure how much of that is relevant but I'll be happy to provide anything else if wanted
