Maps and the ns story

All mappers give a post!
Well today I came up with the idea that all maps should have a story that ties into the larger story of NS which could tie back into each map. This thread is dedicated to creating relationships between maps and creating an overall story. So, would every mapper working on a map please post a short overview of the backstory and also mention any relationship it allready has to any other maps. With this information I think we could begin creating a more involved and believable NS universe. Get to posting allready

Something like this would be great

-Mapper: N@rby
-Map: ns_freon
-Setting: USM Heimann low orbit freight terminal, tauechelon moon cluster, 4 light years west of the Allandriceti (LV-839-A) nexus, 18:24 SST, June 23rd 2031
-Story: Communications have been cut recently after a mysteriously silent docking with the super-freighter "Van-Lawrence", marine squad sent in.
-Relationship to other maps: The Heimann stored ore is forwarded to the USS Bast refinary, 300,000 KM north of the Heimann.

gee....a back story for maps....wow....did you come up with that idea all by yourself?

I don't know about dates or tie-ins with other maps, but my map (ns_arestwo) is a laboratory complex on Mars dealing with quantum fissuring studies...

A cohesive NS universe would definitely be a good thing. As soon as I get any kind of idea what my map is even about, I'll be sure to get some kind of story that has some kind of connection with the world at large.

Mapper: Hanz Gruber
Map: NS_Odlers

Setting: Aboard a deep space ISI Research Station, near the twin planet system, (insert system name here), 23 Light years 128*80'42" north of (insert system name). (insert a valid relevent date and time here).

Story: The ISI O.D.L.E Research Station (Interplanetary Space Initiative "Oxygen Dependant Lifeform Environments" Research Station) was conducting it's regular tests and scientific study on various species of animals, searching for a solid foundation for adapting human lungs to multiple atmospheres, and after being online for 12 months, the station received new orders - A new species of alien life had been found. It had already ravaged several manned and unmanned spacecraft and The ISI needed to know as much about it as possible. Confident in the O.D.L.E. station's containment facilities, The ISI sent a dozen live samples and a vacated "hive". Testing began immediately on arrival of the specimans. Scientists excitedly recorded findings of mutation ablities previously unknown to man. 6 months of testing and multiple freight containers with live specimans led to a multitude of data and more information than The ISI would ever need. 2 Weeks before the crew was due to disembark on the journey home, to present their findings, all communication was lost. ISI liased with the USM and a squad is being now sent to investigate.

Relationship to other maps: Read the above. It's pretty obvious.

I was also thinking if we could have some constant orginization names used throughout the story and IN THE MAPS it would be awesome. So far we allready have
USS USM and ISI. Could someone fill me in on what those stand for and what there function is. We could really use a name for the military or whoever is sending in the marines. Also, after we establish some of these names would someone be willing to make a few logo/texture things that could be used in the maps displaying the USM or whatever we decide on? (Im guessing the USM is controlling the marine squads according to Hans)

According to the official backstory an organisation called the TSA is sending the marines. You can see those initials on the 'marine' gear. I created a TSA logo for use as a readyroom recruitment poster. You can download that texture along with NS_NEXT or NS_ONE from NS World.

Speaking of NS World we are also collecting backstories and background links between maps.

NS World is HERE. NS World - All the maps - All the time.

Sweet, everyone should start using the TSA thing where it goes well in the theme of the maps, like in dropships and such...

well this would be a great idea, but it would only work for the official maps, can't ask people to stick to the stuff all the time......

Could possibly lead to a cohesive plot on any future single player editions of NS

it would be cool but i think it would be some work to do that
im satisfied with a single story behind everymap...
but anyway if u put in a story its anyway only something u read once and then the times after you will just press "ok"
right away

No, the whole point would be to integrate the story into the maps so you really wouldnt have to read it neccesarily, there would be things spread throughout the maps that would reveal the story and such. Anyways, Mappers, we still need your stuff.
