Cyclops suddenly spinning uncontrollably after saving (Solved... kind of)

Hey guys and gals;

I have a save I've been enjoying the hell out of for about 18 hours now, and after getting the 'Memory crash imminent' warning I decided to save and quit the game with my just at the surface of the water with Solar Panels attached to the roof.

After loading the game, the cyclops is suddenly spinning wildly in midair so rapidly that it will both forcibly eject me from the submarine, do a full rotation, KILL ME with its own fast-moving tail, spawn me back inside the sub, eject me, kill me, spawn me, eject me, kill me.

You see where this is going, don't you? I've managed to get behind the wheel of the sub one time, but nothing I did seemed to stop the spinning. Does anyone have any ideas? I'd hate to have to start over!

Try removing all of the panels. Could be possible from inside the Cyclops, as the panels are not an integral part of the sub.
Aim the Builder tool anywhere above your head and press the 'E' key. Might be tricky with a moving target, though.

BTW: Cross your fingers for luck. Couldn't hurt.

Oh jeez, I've got six of them. This is gonna be tough to do.

UPDATE: After feeling nauseated by the fact that I was being span around like I was inside a washing machine, I managed to finally deconstruct all the solar panels, but to no avail. Is there a way to recover a previous save..?

Sounds like you're in a particularly nasty spot of bother.

The closest I've come to experiencing a similar situation was when I tried attaching a power relay to the Cyclops, figuring it might be able to draw power from a nearby base. Predictably, the sub started to sink as soon as that piece of foreign hardware was attached.

The Grand Reef biome probably isn't the best place to attempt to do this, as the Cyclops almost reached its crush depth before I could remove the offending piece.

Long story short... If it's possible to attach another power relay on your Cyclops, it might fool the physics engine into exchanging wild rotation for a straight sinking glitch. Might also pay to attach a floater to the hull instead, particularly if the relay trick doesn't work. If it stops the rotation, remove the offending article ASAP and see whether the Cyclops still remains stable. If it does work, try saving the game as a new save point and continue playing with that one.

At this stage, anything's worth a shot.

Via console command, warp yourself to a different area and spawn in a new cyclops there. Then save/exit the game. This is the exact kind of situation console commands are for.

    biome safe
    spawn cyclops

I don't know how to despawn the cyclops, but as long as you are not in the immediate area of the "bad" cyclops, there shouldn't be any problems.

Thanks for the advice Bugzapper, but unfortunately it didn't work, though it gave me an idea of my own! Using the power relay gravity bug paired with a bunch of floaters I literally pinned my spastically-spinning cyclops to the seabed, keeping it still so I could salvage all my items from my lockers before spawning a new Cyclops

While I was doing this, I realised something about my ill-fated Cyclops. Anybody familiar with the Half-Life series will know that maybe I shouldn't have named my sub this:

Once I'd successfully pinned the Borealis to the seabed, where it still shook uncontrollably, I pulled out its pressure modules one-by-one until it tore itself apart. Goodnight, sweet prince!

Oh the irony of that name! Now you know why it was spinning out of control. Name it something safer next time. ;) Fun story - sorry to hear you lost it. Double check those hand scanners for secret portal blueprints! :P

This happened to me too, except I had no solar panels on mine. Still don't know what to do...especially since it is like 500m in the air and my seamoth is inside as well... :(

    Okay.

Take your Terraformer, a Builder tool, some Floaters and cross your fingers...

BTW: Is your Cyclops spinning? Kind of important. A rotating Cyclops may damage your health if it hits you.

Method: Load up your Terraformer with as much material as it will hold, then start building a spiral ramp up to the Cyclops.
If the Cyclops is spinning, attempt to build a power relay or solar panel on it. Rotation should cancel, and the Cyclops will fall.

You might need the floaters if it's over a particularly deep patch of water, but you'll need to follow the Cyclops down and attach them quickly.

N.B: Might require a bit of fiddling around adding or subtracting various bits and pieces to fool the hinky physics engine.
    Be creative.

So, the core idea essentially worked, didn't it?
Merely needed a few tweaks to tailor it to the situation.

Glad to be of service. :)

Yes, it is spinning. If I exit wrong, I die. It seems that when I try and leave, it continues to ascend.

Try attaching something to the Cyclops hull with a Builder while you're still inside. At this stage, any foreign object will do.
Solar panel, power relay... Whatever. The object of this exercise is to make the Cyclops descend.

I tried...didn't work. Kinda hard when I'm standing on the wall...and I can't really walk..

Yeah...that sucks. I'll probably make a new one when the H20 update comes out. I'll just play in creative till then. Thanks for the advice.
