So what's the deal with the abandoned one on the floating island, that seabase is in the player's tech style, yet it's there when we begin the game supposedly. Could this mean that there were other survivors?

Considering the state of "ruin" that base is in, I hope that means there will eventually be large dangerous land animals on the island. 'Cuz if there aren't then than means OUR bases will just fall apart one day.

Maybe the escape pod also acted as a stasis pod. Other pods opened earlier than yours and survivors made small bases in places like the islands and the caves. One or two survivors found that the Aurora couldn't fly so they decided to destroy it instead. They set the reactor to detonate and tried to escape but were eaten by Reapers
