The Marines "Wall" Building?
Think about this fokes, Backup CC's are Big, Unweildy and build pretty fast, they also have a TON of HPs so much so that it takes ten seconds for a Pair of Onos +Fade to kill one even when primal Screamed or 39 Seconds for a Single Skulk

Now then they Cost 30, They are big... They easly get in the way...

How about using them as a Walling element?

Its more expensive but its pretty damn hard to get through a CC wall with Acid Rockets...

    yes it would work

but if we were supposed to do that, the Marines would have another structure known as the "big block" which would be a giant cube with lots of hitpoints and just sat there to get in the way. There is no big cube.

In a perfect world, this argument would work. In this one, people wouldn't be bothered and simply put it around their stuff.

The thing is that all marine buildings use the 32*32*32 hull. The CC may appear big, but you could just as well try building a wall of Tfacs - and watch aliens gnaw through them because the turrets can't fire through.

Acid rockets would still be doing splash damage. Even if they hit a CC, the TF will be damaged indirectly. Then you'll just wind up with a destroyd TF, 4 damaged CCs, and a lot of resources down the tube.

you could try blocking hallways with CCs maybe, though...might be worth trying out to see how it works. sort of a marine wall of lame, except with just a single double-stacked row with welders to heal instead of def chambers. it wouldnt stop lerks or skulks, but it could keep fades/onos/gorge from getting through...might be useful sometimes.

(oops evidently there is an existing thread on the thing i was talking about)

Thats ok, However I've tested it, If you build a CC on top(You can) it stops any splash damage, I tested it with a few friends, Takes roughly 90 Acid Rockets to kill the CC

    Thats a loong time

Funny, I had just thought of this the other night.. using CCs as barricades to the main marine base in the event that I knew an onos rush was eventually on the way. I figured it would be funny to watch the onos get stuck at the door while the turrets pelleted them and more importantly my marines could take the phase gate back to base to load up on shotguns.

However, it seems like it would be more of a useless tactic that would just extend an inevitable end, and that's kind of lame. So it would be more as a joke move or maybe a sly trick up the sleeve that could actually be used to win 1/1,000th of the time.

Once bile bomb starts working again though, smart Fades won't be attacking them with acid rockets if they have 3 hives.

Why would you waste 120 resources to build 4 CCs to protect a turret factory? You could build a couple backup turret factories, then use the ~70 left over to buy something useful like upgrades, or equipment... I can't imagine frittering away all that on a wall. A marine with his shotgun and extra armor will do a much better job of defending your base.

then, what is the cheapest way to get a marine blockade? There has to be a "Best building" Cost/Health wise to make a wall.

The funniest tactic is when trying to invade a hive, dump about 3 CC's in the alien hive. All the alien turrets start shooting the CC's and your marines can strol in and wipe up .

But couldn't a skulk just hop over that and munch at the TF completly safe, guarded by the CCs? It'd even be hard for a marine to get a shot at him.

    o god....grinn is so true.

btw...blackout's post has its points but these people are after a cheap and efficent wall. but until i find a reason to use a wall, i would save that extra cash and upgrade or build a few extra turrets. extra weapons and stuff would be much better.

Not that I'm saying it's a good idea, but this would be a bit more economical...

Yeah, Factories don't really work in the corners - there's always a gap that's *just* big enough for a skulk to get into.

Since marines can stack too, why not just stack them 2 CC high in the door ways on.. oh lets says Eclipse.. That would render onos/fade useless (Excluding bilebomb) until they were destroyed.

Yes acutal the best part of the CC wall stack is the fact that you can easily build turrets on top of CC's I've gotten three on a CC once by watching where I placed em

Quite fun for the Fades to hop the Corner and face 10 Turrets and ALWAYS ten turrets as they are on top and around

sounds funny to me...i think there is a lot of building to be built ammo and health to be dropped than vaste resources on this...dont expect this oïn normal game but maybe could be used to try to surprise oponent....i dont know....)
