Several times, I've let fish go around one of my bases. I was expecting that they'd stay swimming around the general vicinity but they all appear to be gone. Does anyone know what happens to fish that you release?

I think they swim back to where they first spawned. The same thing happens to me when I release fish around my base, but when I spawn them they stay.
