Yes, yes, we all are aware that Subnautica is an exploration/science/survival game, not an action combat genre. However, I did have a rather interesting thought when I had pondered whether it would one day be possible to kill a Reaper Leviathan should the need arise. The thought was simple. "You well could have just killed one of the most powerful entities in the game, what's going to happen? The body is going to de-spawn and come back later." Well, it seemed rather disappointing to me. Then I had a thought. "What if you were able to take a trophy from the body of the Reaper Leviathan, like maybe his giant tendrils?" Then I started thinking it would be incredibly neat if you were able to take trophies from any incredibly difficult or dangerous beast from beneath the hideous alien sea.
This would be implemented in a very simple manner, resources you can gather from a captured object can be harvested, but with specialized tools one can also 'stuff' the object and create a display item to be placed within your base or submarine if you so choose. Simple fish that one can grab and harvest with ease would likely require minimal tools to harvest a trophy, while something much larger like a Reefback or Leviathan would require a specialized submarine-mounted tool to gather and move.
As for the lore of the thing, for those who cry "BUT MEH SCIENCE!" Do note that explorers often collect trophies, especially those who are observing wildlife. In more recent times the practice has been frowned upon, but it still employed. A scientist wanting to show their discoveries should he ever return would likely have a very large museum of stuffed creatures, not to mention, it'd look really damn cool.

Sure, we hold our respect for the beauty and sanctity of nature, but we need not be afraid of rolling up our sleeves and Exo-Suit punching a Reaper Leviathan right in it's ugly mug.
Show up with a Reaper tusk and they hail you as a great hunter and sometimes leave little bags of stuff by your base as tribute.
Sure you don't really have a use for a handful of seashells or weird glowing pearls, but its the thought that counts.
I actually kinda like that... maybe a couple of different effects, depending on how you use it. Put a Reaper skull on a pike, and most predators stay at least 100 meters away from the effigy. Present a trophy to natives, they like you a bit more. Stuff like that.
