Subnautica is already a greatly made game, but I have some ideas to add. Here's all of them.
A harpoon gun you can attach to a seamoth or cyclops.
An elevator rather then a vertical ladder.
A underwater drill vehicle that can drill through underwater mountains. (A large variation of the terraformer)
A hydroelectric power generator
Have little pieces of the aurora scattered around*
Compact, hand-held drill
That's all the ideas I had for now. Hope you enjoy them!
*Before you say thats's called scrap metal, I mean little rooms that fell out of the aurora that you can explore in, like a shipwreck.

Elevator: Yes. I'm thinking the ladder has an animation and takes a long time, whereas the elevator is really fast.
Drill: Agreed again. I'd prefer to not spend thirty minutes spamming the mouse if I want to make a new cave.
Hydroelectric Power: Why hasn't this been implemented already?
Other than that, I agree, but don't really have anything else to add.
A Harpoon Gun is still a must for hunting/self defense.
The Terraformer is your hand drill. And it can even drill from long range!
An Elevator would be way more expensive and space consuming than a Ladder. If you want a small base you'd better limit it to 1 story. Have both, but have Elevators only be practical for very large bases that go down super deep for some reason.
Hydroelectric power requires MOVING water in order to work. Maybe when/if currents are added.
The terraformer isn't what I mean. A drill that will drill resources, and you can use them. Maybe stone might be used to fabricate something.
*nod* Maybe... After all, currently mining stone has two logical problems that I can see. First of all, where the heck does the stone itself go? It's apparently just vaporized, leaving whatever ore is inside. Secondly, how the heck can you do that with your bare hands? Maybe have the drill be made of things you can find without mining, like Titanium, and you need it to mine ore.
The limestone/shale/basalt is just a thin coating/layer around the ore chunk.
Also I just remembered that the Exosuit will have a drill hand specifically for getting Mercury Ore out of the walls of the Grand Reef. (And for piercing the heavens of any uppity sea creatures)
so I guess a regular drill wouldn't be too ridiculous.
With that, I'd like for Ore Veins to be found underground, or on walls, that would yield a lot of resources, but require a drill (exosuit or hand) to harvest from. Gold, Silver, Copper, and Quartz veins in the shallows, Uranium, Mercury, Lithium and Diamond veins in the deeper biomes.
