It appears that 'Four Feet' is something of a magic number as far as diving is concerned.
If you had a five-foot long snorkel and tried using it four feet underwater, you would have a very hard time inhaling and exhaling
because it would be nearly impossible to overcome the water pressure acting on your ribcage. You might even suffocate and die.
There's a subtle but important difference between 'Diving' and 'Dying'. Diving can be hella fun... Dying, not so much.
Snorkels are of a particular length for a VERY specific reason. You cannot change the Laws Of Physics.
