Relationship between Peepers and Oculus?

I've once seen the 3D concept art of 3 different kind of Peeper fish.
Several days ago i found in the jelly cave one purple creepy looking peeper fish, called Oculus.

They do have relationship, don't they? What kind of relationship do they have? Just only because of environment, or because of more than that, like contamination etc?
It would be awesome to see more of those mutated spezies of friendly fishes like garryfish or boomerang etc. Like 5x larger predator version of garryfish would look hilarious while 5x larger version of boomerang really creepy like vays.

Are you planning to make players be able to mutate fishes with own tools as well?

Oculus could be a variant version of the fish, just what happens when they grow in a different environment. I was disappointed in how BAD oculus were for food though, not worth the salt used to cook them at 18 measly food.

hopefully the game will be feature full enough so that it is explained to us, or we can make our own conclusions

Having a full ecosystem with different variants of creatures that evolved from the same ancestor(s), which would happen(and did here on E-arth) would be extremely cool. Also seeing as this game is supposed to be a research/exploring/ documentary type game (I'm sure people will make min documentaries xD) it would make sense to have things like that.

I think that's a goal in development, for now it seems base creation is one of the things they are working on

Oculus is Peeper's evil twin. 'nuff said. I mean.. just look at this guy. I'm sure he's poisonous and schemes evil schemes at night instead of sleeping. Perhaps I should make him aggressive. That would be fun...

We do have a bit of size variation in the game already. Small Peepers follow larger Peepers. No kidding. You probably haven't noticed it though because it's very subtle. I would like to have supersized creatures and/or more clones with another texture like the Oculus. Seems like a cheap way to add variety.

Agreed, it did look like the oculus is supposed to be scary in some way, or at least eerie, considering you find him in the dreaded Jelly Shroom caves, which are shaping up to be quite frightening actually O_o Great work on them

Yeah I ACTUALLY did see a pack of peepers, I think it was 5 or 6 strong, one was a large one and the others followed it around, it was quite beautiful. I initially thought it was a mother and some older ones that found their mother somehow and decided to stick with her. For the oculus I'd say, make it be aggressive but NOT player damage aggressive, let it butt us, it's head looks like it's used to ram things since it doesn't have the same mouth as its cousin. Let it push us around and NOT be afraid of us.

Hmm, how about some space magic? I am a huge fan of fantasy (for god's sake just look at my avatar) have him do something like the mesmer where he or she will blind you or something if you get too close?

You think the mesmer is magic....really? It works on the same principle of say angler fish or the like, it uses its 'arms' and uses BIOLUMINESCENCE to mesmerize you.

Lol, I suppose that's something to consider? But, I'm under the impression that wouldn't work on humans

I wasn't assuming that, I just thought it was slightly different than what we would normally find on earth lol
