Comms: How To Warn Marines?

If you see an alien hiding on the map
So you've just sent your marines towards a hive that you want for a base, and suddenly you see a blue circle right around the corner from them. Gotta be a Skulk, gotta be planning on tearing up your hapless troops, what do you do about it? If you try to warn the troops, how? If not, do you just start dropping meds and ammo? Or do you just watch and pray?

Please don't shout "Turn around turn around they're above and behind you!" into voice or text. Every marine on the map suddenly does so.

I say "You guys moving to [someplace], incoming around the corner."

Simple as that.

If you happen to have those marines selected, and can right-click on the alien it will warn the marines with happy little "Enemies nearby" audio cue.

as a marine, i once had a commander put a WP on a skull for me..
it said attack this target
and i looked up and the wp was on a hiding skull on the ceiling
so ther u go

as the commander, it must take some skill to right click on a skull from that top down zoomed out view

clicking on a skulk to have marines attack it...not to bad if it's not moving. I usually use myu voice com to simply say, be attentive they are around the corner lads. end of story, a little warning, where they should be, how many, etc. I don't want to panic them butr, giving them a heasds up should help, then again if I have motion tracking researched and they have been paying any attention on the way there they should have noticed him already.

Speaking of which, has anybody every played on a pub server in which you had enough faith in your marines to forego the main base turret factory and instead get an Observatory with Motion Tracking? And if you did was it even marginally successful?

Yeah, once or twice. We won both of them.

The build order was somewhat along the lines of:

Portal
Observatory
Armory
Portal
MINE THE HELL OUT OF THE BASE

That worked extremely well, but it was right after the game came out and I was still experimenting. The aliens were probably messing around as well.

The Observatory first strat is great if you have some good shooters who ALSO follow orders. If not, it's a disaster waiting to happen. The most impressive game I've ever played as marines was with a commander who used Phasegates at every key location, and almost no turrets at all. It took a lot of work on his part though I'm sure, as he would have to direct us to respond to each threat quickly. We expanded at an amazing rate though... took both hive locations within minutes, and could defend each of them via Phasing. I'm sure the aliens were more than a bit miffed by the end of it however. Such blitzkrieg style is usually the trademark of the Aliens.
