This game needs co-op!!

Ok, a bit of a tongue in cheek title. I know there are no definite plans, and it would probably be a post release idea even if it was, but there really needs to be co-op on this.

Scatter was just talking to me from in-game in Subnautica, and all I wanted to do was hit join game and have a swim around the depths of subnautica's oceans with him. Seriously, this game needs a co-op mode, where 2 pods survived, and two friends can play together swimming the ocean depths.

I can't understate my desire to see a co-op mode in this. I know it would be a long way off, but it is something this game is absolutely crying out for. I am absolutely positive that adding a 2 player co-op mode to this, would take the Subnautica experience to a whole new stratosphere of exitement.

Any way, just putting it out there...

It would be amazing. All the artwork they provided (healing a "whale" e.g.) would be so amazing to be able to experience in co-op.

A number of my friends would instantly get this but... only if it really had multiplayer.

Let's hope this game get's off well enough for them to add it. :)

Coop would be the #1 best feature that could be added for me.

I think having Coop would be a decent Idea since you could have up to four players all working together to gather resources to keep the team alive, explore more of the ocean, and start colonizing the surface (what there might be of land).

I can't see why the game would not include this.

I know some folks immediately think this would spoil the "all alone" feeling of the game but people have to understand that they do not have to play coop if they do not want too. It just would be a nice addition to an already great game, and not having the option would be short sighted.

Also I know that this would open the game to those who would rather play coop, and in the end provide more pennies for the developers to keep working on the game, and give us a reason while playing to show off our Hull Plate as well, which in turn could again provide more dollars for the team because those who like the hull plate may very well want one of their own.

I find it curious when people try to argue that because a game has coop, then the game is no longer Single Player which I find odd since they don't have to use it. It's as if they think they have no choice which just doesn't make any sense.

Anyway, I say coop would be a nice option even if you have no intention of using it.

Funny you mention the hull plate. Now that I think about it there wouldn't really be a single reason for this item if there wasn't any sort of multiplayer I guess.

As for the whole "single player" debate. Well, yes, in some games with poor mechanics it could lower the gameplay value as the storytelling may not be executed well enough (story impact, trigger malfunctions etc.).
But in a exploration type of game? This should not really affect gameplay much at all.

One thing is very much certain to me (and I speak with my wallet here): even if the game is not appealing enough just by the single player value alone, if it has the option to be played co-operatively I'm buying it.
A good example (to me) was Half Life 2 which was an extremely boring rail level type of shooter to me - but I had a ton of fun in co-op and thus it had it's sale.

So yes, I believe co-op would be very much in the interest of players but also in the interest of sales.

    [EDIT]
    meant half life 2 xD

Damnit dottedfish played allready half-life 3...

    Hardcore multiplayer underwater please :)
If the game is really hard, people will co-op instead of KOS.

    I
I can't see why the game would not include this.
Mainly because it is a very large amount of programming work to code in multiplayer of any sort, and at the moment there is still much so much that needs to be done on the core game mechanics.

We've mentioned it quite a bit already, but multiplayer is a very important feature to us, and we hope to be able to add it at some point, but for now we just need to work on making sure the single player experience is amazing.

Absolutely, take your time. Like I've said in the past (steam forum), coop would be the frosting on the cake, and having it implemented in the far future is good enough for me.

    Cheers!

Eh please don't assume we'll ever get to do it. Hopefully we will, but no promises.
