Hmmmm, is it Weight, Drag or Both?

Hi.

I'm in the game right now testing it out, and I decided to see how long I could stay under water with my entire inventory filled with tanks, and I immediately noticed how slow I was moving which is making me wonder if you folks have implemented drag into the game or is it based on weight or Both?

Interesting...

i think it's currently just based on how much you're carrying. although having weight is interesting..so if you carry beyond a certain weight, you lose buoyancy control!

That would be amazing. especially if you could have the opposite problems sinking/floating helplessly up .

Fantastic... I like it. Makes me want to take care of what I am carrying. Get too greedy, and you may not live to tell the tale (stalker hunting you down, and you can't swim for worth a dang).

Just reading up on the buoyancy vest, and that is a nice thing to have.

I just started to think here. I'm currently down about 150 meters or so, and I am way over weight (tanks). I started to imagine myself being caught in a current I didn't know existed, and I start getting dragged further, and further away from my life pod, and I'm being dragged deeper with every passing second.

I have two choices here, #1: Drop everything I have, and try to get out of the current by swimming like a mad man or #2: Pull the rip cord, and let my buoyancy vest inflate to get me out of here fast, and take the risk of developing the bends in which case I had better have built a hyperbaric chamber.

    Interesting choices.

I have to say there are so many possibilities for this game since it's such a interesting environment.

I'm glad you like the current tank/speed tradeoff. It was a quick feature to try to keep tanks interesting.

It would be really easy to try this buoyancy idea too. That would be wicked to frantically dump things so you could get back up quickly.

It's a great trade off. I really like it. It does force you to keep an eyeball on your weight, and it begs you to ask a question "Do I pickup the last few pieces or head back?" all the while you have to consider how far away you are from your sub, and what are the chances of being killed on the way back.

Greed, and laziness would get you killed in this environment if you don't manage things properly.

I already have experienced the panic, and I dumped everything to get to the surface quickly.

I was on the other side of the kelp field, and since I had my inventory full (I wanted to test out the amount of weight the life pod could take before sinking), and I entered the kelp field (that place is beautiful). As I was casually cruising close to the bottom I got jumped on by two stalkers, and here I was trying to get the heck away loaded down, and they just kept attacking me, and I was swimming far too slow to get away so I dumped, and headed to the surface. The level of fear I felt initially surprised me, and of course panic set in.

I dumped everything I worked for on the spot, and I tell you I was happy to get to the surface. Now when the survival aspects are put in such as leaving a trail of blood in the water since I was torn apart, I could very well expect a much more dangerous predator (if he is in the vicinity) wanting to make me his afternoon snack would deepened the fear even more with every stroke I took (come on, your getting closer) all the while I'm picturing having a creature grab one of my legs, and drag me to the bottom (as in jaws).

Crazy thing is I somehow doubt the life pod could protect me from a alien fish the size of a Megalodon.

    :)

I like it when games give you a limited mass without any penalties. After this, encumbrance (or whatever you want to call it) begins to grow. So, you could say the first 0-10kg of "stuff" would not affect anything. Beyond this, any additional weight would proportionally slow you down.

Although this is not 100% realistic, it allows for the player to have more fun by not worrying about moving around with some equipment, but keeping them mindful about becoming a swimming dump truck.

I think the way the inventory work for now is a good solution against greedy players :p I explain. The inventory as it is have a limited number of slot, and that includes diving stuff (fins, compass, etc). So with all this stuh we have already a limied "weight". But, that way, fins and somme stuff as HUD thermometer can be reduce or remove.

Honestly, I hate it when games give you a certain weight limit. Usually this is done in games with unlimited inventory size to actually give you some penalty for picking everything you see up (i.e. Skyrim).

However in this game, please keep it where our inventory size is the limiting factor, and weight is not a factor. I don't think it will do any favours, and certainly won't enhance the gameplay apart from to be more annoying :(

I like how it is now, but because we not have not much tools to gather materials. I hope ine the future we an synthetize easily some "standard" ore and go gather more precious one with submarines. I especially hope there will be a geothermy/current central for power and a submarine drill.
