Whip Out That Pistol

I don't see many people using the pistol. I use it as frequently as my LMG, kills-wise. It has two main roles:

1)Stopping incoming skulks
2)Rapidly killing partially exposed aliens

The first is pretty obvious. Looking down a long corridor, the pistol stops skulks before they enter the practical range of the LMG.
The second has been even more useful. Many skulks and lerks like to sit on the fringes of marine bases, parasiting or using spike shooter. They know to keep far enough away to flee LMG fire, but are plenty close to be gibbed by your pistol. Other times, they sit just inside vents, leaving just a tiny little patch of ugly skin exposed. You can take out these still targets extremely quickly with the pistol; this little gun shoots almost as fast as your LMG but with far greater accuracy and 20 damage a hit.

I use my pistol all the time! Especially in the early game when ammo is tight and I usually take off out of the base before an armory is built. It comes down to the pistol.

More often I use it, however, when my LMG or HMG runs out of ammo and I want to finish the job and pop that skulk or gorge. Many, many times the pistol has saved my **obscenity**.

Almost more commonly, NOT having a pistol has sealed my fate. Nothing I hate more than needing to get that pistol out at the last second and pulling out that slow as hell welder that takes 5 seconds before it starts to fire.

And of course, if I have a grenade launcher, a pistol is absolutely necessary. Close-range, a grenadier has nothing but a knife if he doesn't have a pistol. Even in HA, a skulk can be the death of a marine with a grenade launcher. The pistol is the saving grace.

It's powerful and it's dead accurate. 4 hits drops a skulk.

I also like to use my pistol, but too many times was I killed with it. The gun just doesn't produce fast enough, so an unexpected attack from above or behind is hard to get by. Though, its useful when your low on ammo and vs. larger aliens like fades and onos.

In ns_eclipse i like to stand at the end of thoes long hallways outside our base and kill skulks with my pistol when the aliens are rushing. I only whip out my LMG if i run out of ammo or a skulk starts munching on my feet.

The pain of the pistol, IMO, is that only three reloads can be carried, as opposed to six for the LMG. Even though it's more accurate and more damaging, you can only fire it for about sixteen seconds before all forty rounds are gone, as opposed to around fifty seconds to empty the three hundred fifty LMG shots. So despite it being a very nice weapon, the lack of ammo will always relegate it to secondary status. Which is probably exactly why the designers gave it that amount, didn't want a lowly pistol to dominate the marines' starting arsenal. I just wish I didn't have to toss the pistol to take the welder, that always hurts a little bit, deep down. Unless I have a shotgun, then I can cope, somehow.

I love using the pistol on Gorges that are sitting behind a wall of lame and trying to heal stuff up. Those pistol rounds are 100% accurate; you can shoot right in between chambers.

That's the best feature of the pistol. Aliens are so used to inaccurate LMGs, they don't worry about you at a distance. The pistol can kill them at range and very quickly - not to mention frustrating and aggravating your target.

    Good times.

The other great thing about the pistol is the incredible speed at which it fires. Just tap that button and POOF, there go your ten rounds. It's great for when you sneak up on an alien, as they don't expect to go from healthy to dead that quickly. It's also very good for aliens hiding in vents and other partially obscured places.

Though most of the time I do use it for backup. I'm not too bad at dodging skluks, and some of the time (especially when more than one attacks me) my LMG runs out. The pistol just means you need to click on them and fire. Since I run fairly high sensitivity (24 at the moment), their little antics don't match the speed at which I can track.

I know sensitivity varies wif comps but 24 is mad! omg.. the highest i ever used was 20
but i swithced to low sens long ago

now i use i think 3.5 for NS

and a 2 or lower for CS... (precisoin rifle skillz)

Eh, Sorry but I don't agree. The LMG almost have the same precision as the Pistol. The only reason why I use pistol at range is because the LMG is more practical in close combat. I a skulk comes running straight at me in a long corridor, it doesn't really mather if you use the LMG or Pistol, both have good precision and the skulk should dir before he comes even halfway.

I think many people miss with the LMG because they get confused by the muzzle flash, which is pretty annoying... You just have to keep your eyes focused on the crosshair.

Um, I *think* that you're wrong. Unless it's entirely client-side effects (which I don't think is true because I've seen them used on servers that used to show damage), the LMG has somewhat of a spread. When you're shooting at something around a corner, you'll see some bullets hitting the wall. With the pistol, however, every shot taken is directly in the center of your crosshairs.

Why do you think I said almost?
