<div class="IPBDescription">Some help with understanding</div>A couple weeks ago, I had a run-in with Moleculor about the profanity filter. He gave a good reason for having it which I think should be made a little more public than it was, being in a personal message from Molec to me.

He said that one of the major reasons for the profanity filter(the other being to prevent flame-fests and pr0n trading) was that there are a lot of very young people on the boards, younger than 13... he even said there are a couple 10 year olds(whoever they are, I'm sure they'll deny it... the average age among the minors here is allegedly 15). so it makes sense that he'd want to keep it more PG.

p.s. I'm sure you're already guessing who these 10,11,12 year olds are, but I'd like to throw something in before you start the witch hunt: despite how he acts, I think that Jedisar is probably <i>older</i> than he seems.

    Why are you posting this? Everybody can look at the calendar to see how old everybody is, and I'm sure everybody knows why this filter is here, I have no problems with it, it's not like on some servers where whole sentences get filtered for no apperant reason..

    Well, he posted it because quite frankly, some of our users are trying their best to get around it. I've had to edit many a posts, due to both the filter not being omniscient, and 'trickery' with the filter itself. The rule is placed there for a reason, and whether or not YOU understand it, some people do not. Everyone should mind <a href="http://www.natural-selection.org/ns_home.html" target="_blank">this post.</a>

    I know I'm rambling about a dead topic, but it took me a while to get around to the off-topic forums...
    IMO swearing is useless. It doesn't make you sound smart, or funny, or more serious about what you're talking about. When used excessively, it only sounds immature.

    On the main forum index, towards the bottom of the page, there's a memberlist showing who's online. Underneath that is a "View Calendar" link. It also conveniently tells you who is celebrating a birthday on the present day.
