Crashes -with- log entry.

We had this one... ~3 times since the readyroom exo was added:

[61463.451] Main : Error: Script Error: Setting the parent of an entity (SoundEffect) to an entity that has been destroyed (ReadyRoomExo)


Anyone else got crashes where the log actually says something useful?

    What is the effect of this? The server crashes? Do you know when this occurs (is it when a RR exo joins a team, when they self-destruct, or when they self-destruct at a certain point)?

    The first player mapvote was at 21:37:41, we can speculate that the 60sec mapvote started a bit before this first vote. The error occurred some time after 21:38:28. Again, we can speculate this was seconds before the mapchange was called. Maybe someone left at that moment, his exo exploded, and... ???

    That's all I got. :(

    This error, whenever it occurs will almost always cause the game to crash, I think it is fixable as other instances of this bug were fixed.

    We just had this crash the server mid round:

    This one I can also say we've had a couple times, and probably even some builds ago, so it's nothing new.

    We do have a crashdump. I'm uploading all dumps anyway to a place matso has access to.

    Sounds great guys, thank you. I'm sure someone receives the stuff sent to that ns2cdt address. :D

    Also @ATF crash dmps are always good. In this case I have a reliable repro so it should be easy to fix (famous last words) so similar cases to the first like what you just posted wouldn't cause a crash.

    Yup, I think we've got that one already. It's that same "Entity has no parent" crash. Not sure if we'll be able to fix the script errors until after the engine crash is fixed so that we can get good script call stacks for the issue.

    Was marine comm that round. Gave waypoints, often on hive, and I am positive that I once targeted a lerk with that.
    Noticed lag, checked server, saw script error spam.
    I rarely command so what did I break? :D

    I'll need to dig a bit to see why this was possible, but according to that log a marine had an order to construct something, and the target of that order was a lerk. So when the code went to see if the order was completed, it failed because lerks don't have a "GetIsBuilt" function.

    I've been having an annoying problem with my server lately. It crashes for no apparent reason, all it says in console is the following (see attachment). Does anyone know how to fix this?

    I'm thinking if I waypoint a scanned enemy, right on it's face, it gives an attack order, no?

    Alpha wing I've not seen this error crash a server in a while and we'd likely be the first to notice. Could you tell us what mods you have active on your server?

    Unless we can get a repro of this, I won't be able to do a script fix. If you have a repro please PM it to me for obvious reasons. ;)

    A code fix may be possible, but other stuff is delaying that at the moment and it's unlikely to get fixed for the next patch.

    Yeah the repro is going to be pretty same for both of those, as is the fix. Really the first problem here is that the engine shouldn't be crashing due to this.

    Regarding that Rifle/Marine script error - must be a zombie marine picking up a rifle after he has been marked as destroyed, or something... can't see how that can happen unless there is some very Voodoo Lua code around, but obviously...

    The issue in the engine is that it just writes the error message, then blithely assigns the zombie as the new owner and keeps on processing, which just causes it to crash later.

    I will change it to abort processing so the log will show a full Lua stacktrace - that will reveal where the error is being made so the Lua code can be fixed.
