Ns2_Dark_Tram (remake Ns2_tram)
Hi all, i'm a french player, i need help for the project of remake Ns2_tram, i have a lot of idea.
I will explain you my project. If some mapper wants to do it, it will be super good.
I think it's not really difficult and long for a good mapper but for me it's impossible.
If someone want to pick my ides, no matter
So, i have a lot of ideas but there is 3 big modification of the map i want:
First modification : the hub : there was an accident of train in hub, the power node is broken, the room is in the dark, and the train is on the left side of the room instead of the wall. Only a little broken light show sometimes shadows of animals ( but what are they ? )
Second big modification : The main bases.
-Aliens don't have choice, the only spawn of the aliens base is Server room and they have 2 RT's in main base.
-Marines don't have choice, the only spawn of the marines base is Shipping room and they have 2 RT's in main base.
And the 2 bases are bigger than the normally ns2_tram. The accident of train forces Marines and Aliens to renforced their base.
Third modification : Ore processing : The accident do some damages, Ore processing RT disappear, and marines have doing a door at the beginning of the corridor for warehouse, but the door is bugging and opening every 10 seconds ( like the press in crusher for example).
So it's the base of the modification i would put on Ns2_dark_Tram, i need a mapper for doing that, if you want to help me or if you can please tell me. It's a dream for me .

I'd recommend you get a good amount of hours into the game before taking on a project of this complexity. When I say "good amount", I'm talking at LEAST 400 hours. Anything less, and you'll still be learning the game and all of its little nuances. The changes you suggest say to me that you haven't yet played enough of the game to really understand what makes a map balanced and fun. For example, there's a very good reason there's no existing maps that have a double rez in a tech point, let alone a starting base tech point. It is simply too much rez going to one team for free. Also, to have an entire room (let alone a map's central room) be entirely in the dark is not a good choice either. You've already got Aliens with double rez, but you're going to also give them free rein over one of the most important rooms on the map?
The biggest problem of all is that I don't see any underlying reason for any of these changes. Yes, your theme is "dark tram", but why? What unique new style of gameplay will be gained by making these changes? It seems to me it'll be mostly a buff for aliens, and overall a more frustrating experience.
Another point -- and perhaps the biggest reason why this won't happen -- is that you've basically said "hey guys, here's some ideas, do it for me". First of all, there is no shortage of ideas on these forums. What there is a shortage of, however, is talented artists and mappers who have the time to devote to these projects... for free.

These changes are going to be a tough sell. What's the rationale behind them? It seems to me this will make both sides a little bit more "turtley".
It would be hard to get right and theres no real reason.
We told him it was turtley. His reasons : he doesn't want any phasegate in HUB anymore, two RTs in base to be able to relerk quickly
No RT in Ore Proc and two doors that open and close themselves every 10sc, for what'ever reason. he said that it will give importance to the room. But looks like it won't be an interesting room anymore, especially if it's Server start only for aliens.
What it seems like, is that he wants a NS2 unbalanced map with weak NS2 Combat elements.
This is a weak project, a whim. And from what he answered us on TS and from that answer just above

What do you mean? He says he has over 2000 hours into ns2. I checked on steam. He has over 2000 hours according to steam.
little annecdote : he played 2000 hrs of NS2 but doesn't know the name of the rooms in the most famous maps and doesn't even sometimes know the name of the map.. (which has little importance in the end, but is quite telling)
