As it should be. You'd be amazed how a public server game of TFC, Fire Arms, or CS can change when one team has someone with voice com. who uses it to command people. I was on a team that was losing pretty badly in CS, once. I had the highest score, 2-5. A guy logs on with a voice com, and I ask him to use it to command our team. Next thing you know, my score is 20-6, and I had the lowest score It's amazing how much someone with a voice-communication can command other people..when you use voice com, most people pay attention and follow your orders. Besides, you can voice-com while fighting and it's faster than typing...Hearing a command is instant. Reading one takes time. Not only that, but more than one person can use Voice Communication at the same time, hence you can stick your button down to leave all your fingers free for combat. Voice Communication all the way. *Is going to buy a hands free microphone and tape his voice com. button down*

Yep, voice comm has been in NS for both sides for quite some time. There will probably be a command for the commander to speak to only the selected players as well.

Voice comm does not noticeably lag the server or any players.

is it possible to make a kind of voicemoderator, that makes the alien sound more dark voiced.. i mean how about a 10year old player playing alien and speaks with a very very light voice (chipmunk stylee) (8
if u seen X-box they have a voice thingi that changes the voice of ppl who are talking (2 make the feeling more cool)
(8 maybe 2 much work 4 beta1, but maybe later?

what is it with people and their voice? Who cares what kind of voice you have, I know a guy (well he's an ###) but he's 20 years old and he still has this chipmunk-style voice..

The voicecomm is indeed something we would need in the mod,
but I have to agree, it WOULD ruin the atmosphere, it's all dark and you can hear alien voices and suddenly the voice of a 10 year old kid pops up! lol
In most mods I don't use voicecomm because at my age (13)
I just sound silly and it's heck annoying to listen at,
i've heard other kids my age talking in the half life voice comm and they sound like they are 5, I just wanna put other people through that pain! lol

Bah! On our (my clan's) TFC server I had to do everything in my power not to flame some punk 5 year old spamming the voice chat. Everytime someone joined our team, we immediately told them to mute said player. He became annoyed and finally left of his own accord.

i dont care how old ppl are. i sometimes play on the net with my 11 yr old cousin and his friends and you can imagine how old they sound. its the strategy and hints they have to add that matters, not if it sounds like theyve been sucking on helium. (hmmm... i just got an idea for the playtest ~;)

if you dont like someones voice and you become irritated, just MUTE him. youll lose because you cannot hear his commands..

...That really doesn't do much for your arguement.

The voice thing never works good for me. Even when I'm playing on a LAN you can't understand a word that the other players are saying. I don't see how it could help at all. Do you think its the mics or the software setup?

either their mic's volume level is too low or too high.. or they just got a voice you cant understand

Yeah, seriously. Or they've got it too far from their head, or they've got a lot of background noise. A lot can go wrong with those mics, but there are a lot of games with people who have decent headsets and you can have perfectly clear conversations with them.

I think the ns team should seriously consider some kind of voice modification so that the voice is changed to sound more manly and gritty, not because 11yr olds voices are annoying (and yes they are) but because you guys should realize that a girly squeaky voice coming out of a marine just does not work, do you think the movie aliens would be as scary and edgy and all that good stuff if all the marines sounded like chipmunks?
• pielemuispielemuis Join Date: 2002-01-25 Member: 72Members, NS1 Playtester
I really don't think they need to put that voice mod in, I mean think about all the work that it'll need, and on pubs almost no1 uses his mike, besides noone cares how you sound...
• Raven1Raven1 Join Date: 2002-04-02 Member: 374Members
Mic is easier than typing in commands to get teh radio on. And on teh pub i play on almost everyone uses it. think about it, is it easier to type u "buncha text" or press t and say "Hey man watch out theres a guy aroudn this corner, ima jump out and distract him adn then you jump out and shoot him."

"Putting the voice in" is as simple as changing a few variables, from what I understand. Flayra doesn't have to code anything. It's already in there, as part of the basic HL structure.

And any team (especially the marines) that doesn't use voice is probably going to end up dying.

(You -do- have your voice communication -activated- don't you Interfect0r?)
