Hello Rines & Porges.

Quite some time ago last year (2013) I worked on an experimental version of Veil for research on balance and psychological behaviour.

I decided to publish this 5 Tech-point version of Veil to the general public rather than let it rot on my hard drive.

    If this is the exact same as the internal version it might need a few fixes in order for it to be playable.

    Oh, that looks very amazing you know. I really appreciate that layout & seems to be more balanced than before. Some rooms look so awesome & original, I actually want to take a look quickly to find out everything you did. Not sure if that's right or not but, did you stop to work on this map or are you still going to improve it? Maybe you only decided to offer this map for public to let us choice & possibility to do whatever the mappers can change on the map or something?

    I have no idea if another "Veil" would be desired by our small community, that could be interesting for competitive players perhaps but is it truly legit to use this layout and not the current one, I mean, people like to play and fight on Veil simply because this is Veil, not to play on a different map. I like the idea for sure, get both different maps in the same "universe" but with new changes to make another gameplay & various strategies.

    I'm really curious to see what gonna happen with this map & everything that could be done to improve it, playing Veil5 must be so refreshing & astonishing, especially for 6 vs. 6 & scrims.

    finally downloaded some content through the workshop so im assuming the map is now up

    which folder contains ns2 steam workshop files? cant find the custom maps in the regular map folder

    It'll be in your app data folder... can't remember offhand if it's local or roaming, but shouldn't be too hard to find. The names of mods aren't human-readable though... so good luck with your searching!

    Yes looks like the steam publisher has not worked! :(
    Map will automatically appear when I figure out why the builder is publishing an empty ZIP file to steam!

    Did you double check that the map is in output/maps? Make sure you delete game_setup too.

    Did you group it under "CommanderInvisible", or "CommanderInvisibleVents"? If the former, it won't show up on overview. :( If the latter... huh... Is the vent all props? I don't think props show up on the minimap.

    Just out of curiosity, for any of the other UWE devs... are there any other experimental maps like this floating around? I'd love to see them if there are!

    If someone wanted to take over Tanith, feel free. ATM I just don't have much time to invest in it. There also doesn't seem to be much interest in it, if there were more, I could probably invest some time in it, but I've tried to get some feedback on it, and have been met with nothing, so it's hard to iterate without that feedback.

    I don't think tanith is ever going to be finished. It's gone through like 5 different people. It's too bad because it's kinda close to being finished.

    I like the veil 5 techpoints, but have you tried removing cargo as a tech point alltogether and make nanogrid as a 5th techpoint? That would make the perfect balance. Nanogrid is easily destroyed by marines due to it's position on the map, so it is a great hive to contest for both party's. Atm there are 3 techpoints on the bottom part of the map, which makes it kind of, well unbalanced for marines, since they need to capture either skylights or topo first to now. Means, there is another added objective for the marines to consider.

    btw, if you really have some time to spare, could you revamp eclipse, in it's state as it is right now it is absolutely horrible. It really needs another techpoint, Maybe some kind of extension at the horseshoe.

    If nanogrid is considered, I would recommend placing the power node to a more vulnurable position, as it's to guarded at the moment, which should make it harder for marines to beacon back to the place.

    I'm not sure someone would like to maintain Veil 5. Gotta be interesting to play on this map though. NS2 players don't appreciate to play on various maps, just take a look on the last releases: Kodiak & Biodome, they learned to play & fight on these maps very slowly (with a lot of time), that's why I'm not convinced to the interest to make a new "Veil" even if Veil 5 is almost finished & completely textured, not sure whether this map is balanced yet and no idea for the bugs.

    About Tanith, exactly the same. As far as I remember with the last NSL Custom Map Cup, nobody really gave feedbacks to the mapper except a few players, I don't know since how many time this map is forsaken but it seems to be fallen into oblivion for now. Maybe I'm wrong but ns2_mineral (made by Master G) is definitely for me in the same kind of idea so far. Layout & positions of the Tech points look very similar, still in beta version though.

    i quite like veil five, at first the marines were crying it wasnt balanced but the issue was people playing it like veil as opposed to a new 5 tech point map, rushing nano really isnt a good strategy now marines need to rush pipe or sub and sky or topo
