So I got killed as an onos last night because for whatever reason, it decided not to load the onos textures ahead of time... and ALSO for whatever reason, it decided the best thing to do would be to freeze up my game for 10+ seconds (I shit you not) while it takes its sweet time loading (NEVER taken that long before, not even close... something is fishy here...). Not sure why this is happening, it's a recent thing, but I've had it with textures not loading ahead of time! None of this "texture streaming" or "extra precaching" BS has helped one bit. So I'm putting an end to it now!
Here's a menu.level and main_menu.cinematic to drop into your ns2 folder. All it is is a camera and a light... OH and EVERY. SINGLE. TEXTURE. In the game in a big grid. Took a hell of a lot of time to place them down, but I'm DONE!
In this .zip you will find:
-"menu.level" - place this in your ns2/maps folder.
-"main_menu.cinematic" - place this in your ns2/cinematics folder.
-"oldmenu.level" - just in case you want the old one back and you forgot to make a backup
-"oldmain_menu.cinematic" - same.
Seems to work great for me, but I have a pretty beefy system... not sure if this'll cause problems on other people's systems or not... so good luck!
