So I was having a conversation with peoples. We are all trying to figure out when we starting playing ns2. I was b208, and found the video.

By the way, what happened to the cyst change network lighting thing seen at about 1:25?
I am so glad commander energy system is gone.

Once other parts of the game was optimized, cysts started to loom large in the performance logs, and was
rewritten into drastically stripped down entities; probably they got lost there. There are still some dead constants present in Cyst.lua though.

When I wrote the original cyst code (may 2011, so that would be around b150-160ish?) , exactly how alien infestation was going to be controlled and used was still up in the air - the light impulses were just a placeholder for the vines that was supposed to connect the cysts.

But once it worked well enough, the vine idea were dropped - why fix something that isn't broken?

I still would not mind seeing those lights. Look hella-cool.

Engine test back in 2010. There were wooden targets you could shoot:

Wasn't much to play in the alpha, but did get some time in while it was in beta.

Engine test, was fun when someone modded in basic deathmatch and UWE left in the skulk assets for someone to use.

Not as oldschool as many who still post on the forums, but here's my starting pint (in NS2, anyway) b181

Hm. What build did we have 14 months ago? NS2 was on a 50% sale, back then.

I didn't pay attention to builds, and actually remember quite little... probably 243-ish.
(What I do remember, though - intensely - was my first time commanding. Marine commanding, on Docking. A 70 minutes game. Back in the days of exo and arc pain trains. And I had to change my comm chair two times. That was exhausting!)

I had the alpha... but couldn't run the game (frozen screen, crashes, etc.) till the beta.

    Two commanders ftf.

Ever since the engine test. But my real interest started around the time the infestation video launched. I was playing NS1 and I asked a server mod what he thought NS2 was gonna be.

He did not say anything, so I said it would probably be on source. He then stuck me in the ground (using that server stuck command from the gold src days, hilarious one) saying they had decided to use idTech 4 (doom 3 engine).

I did not believe him so I went to on the UWE website and started checking it quite often seeing what was said in the forums. Then, BAM INFESTATION VIDEO.

I had almost forgotten about those menus. I'm really glad we have real menus now.
