Scaling

<div class="IPBDescription">Whats your method?</div> If anyone remembers ns_scithi (my old map with the bended lift over a crate), I stopped half way though. The basic reason was I had a problem getting my scale right, the room was either 5 feet too high or 1 foot too short. But since this community has the best mappers, I thought I'd ask for a tip.... Whats your method of scaling?

I go for 128 is a low cieling 256 is getting there and 512 is big cieling. 48 all round works for vents, but ns vents seem alittle smaller, im not too sure.

Mapping for NS is a bit different than mapping for other mods, but how I got the hang of it was going through a bunch of science and industry maps with the briefcase out. Hallways are almost always 2x the player height and somewhere from 6-8 player widths. Large rooms are usually 3x or 4x. I had an article on dimensions on egcreations but I took it off cause nobody was reading it :\

Don't be afraid to make your ceilings high, especially in NS! If you don't like all that empty space up there you can fill it with whatever your heart desires, pipes, lights, vents... One thing I love/hate about NS is that the ceilings tend to be looked at alot more than most other MODs meaning you have to pay more attention to them.

i make blocks of origin texture and use those for sizing, moving them around. since you cannot have a loose origin texture in a compiled map, this helps me to remember to remove them....

hive sizers - block sizing brush 256x256x512

people/fade player sizers - block sizing brush 48x48x96 - i like to give a little spacing padding. minimums are actually 32x32x72, as you know.

vent sizers - a block brush 48x48x48 for a short, small vent; sizing 64x64x48 for a wide longer one with passing space. miminums are 32x32x36, but again i like a little space padding.

onos sizers for main corridors - min are 64x64x108, so i try to use a block brush of 128x128x128 to give passing room.... although 64x64x128 is ok for a short narrow corridor onos can use.
