Game freezes

For some reason whenever i start my game up after a few seconds the game freezes and the only way for it go back to normal is alt-tabbing, but even then it freezes after a couple seconds. The weird thing is that this only happens for about two weeks, goes back to normal for about a week, then starts crashing again for another two weeks. Any ideas as to what could be happening?

Its a lenovo y580 laptop

NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX660M 2GB with DirectX® 11

Try fullscreen ( not windowed fullscreen ) and D3D9.
Something running in the background ? antivirus ?
maybe heat dissipation, clean the dust.

    Windows 8 T.T
Well is this happening in other programs or just NS2? IF Other programs do the same jililop has the right idea.
if not, find your techsupport.exe in steam/steamapps/common/natural selection 2/ folder and get us the results
It might even be a good idea to throw in your dxdiag to the mix (not sure how w8 does it, but you should be able to search for "dxdiag")

Oh right that's nice to know. @IronHorse‌

Could be your GPU drivers, hard to tell from your techsupport. I recommend downloading the latest from NVidia for your card.
Also, you have a mod installed and its best to rule that out from being the culprit before continuing, as mods can do funky things sometimes.

"Mounting mod from C:/Users/Cisco/AppData/Roaming/Natural Selection 2/Workshop/m63a358d_1391467171/"

Deactivate any mods in your NS2 in game mod menu
Unsubscribe from all NS2 mods through steam workshop
Then delete the Workshop folder found in your hidden %appdata%/Natural Selection 2/ folder

Also are there any errors that windows itself might be reporting?
