It actually isnt really a 32bit problem, but a <8GB RAM Problem.
I am running Win 7 64bit with formerly 8gb of RAM, I didnt ever have problems until one day some of my programs started crashing. Later it turned out it one of my RAM sticks was broken, NS2 already had those errors by that time cause the RAM Stick wasnt fully useable anymore without throwing errors.
After I removed it and was left with 4GB, the error persisted, and looking at replies here from ppl using 32bit system, the error really seems to be related to not having enough RAM available.

No, thats not it.. I just tested that exact scenario (64 bit win 7 with 4 GB ram) and had zero issue.. I joined an official UWE server and changed the map to every single map the game has and experienced no crash or issue at all.
Any of you tried running some memory diagnostic tools like memtest86?
You can't just force the error to appear that way. The servers were empty, right? If you play a long game and load stuff like exos, hand grenades, commander hud and exploding skulks etc., you will have used more memory and the error will more likely appear. I loaded different maps on official servers last build as well a few dozen times and nothing happend. That didn't mean my system was imune to the crash...
First I could not enter any game or optimise after update.
*Resolved Deleted LUA in 2 directories and Verified integrity. - This solves that issue 100%
Second Problem i cannot join any game with a MOD But i can join any official server
So can i Delete my MODS folder and grab a new copy from the sever once i join one?
If so how?
This is the first tibbit of the error.

Nothing has changed on this PC Except this update. is there a way to purge my system of the mods without a nuke as game wise it works. i can join all official servers without problems.
BTW i am willing to work very hard to help the community get this resolved, Just because its not posted online does not mean people are not suffering
Ask me for what ever information or log you require.
Disable all server mods in your mod (in the main menu ) tab, and delete your mod folder (win + r, type in %appdata%\Natural Selection 2 and delete the Workshop folder ). All mods you don't have will be downloaded while you connect to the server.
Otherwise could you post the full log in a spoiler?

To recap I Deleted LAU in 2 folders, and Deleted APPDATA workshop folder
The only problem i seem to have now is NS2 not downloading player made maps and now and then mods.
"Missing mod required" (Not downloading) and "Missing map" this does this with the map ns2_Triad i even subscribed in workshop through steam but never downloaded.
Did you try joining Woozas server? Because thats pretty much the only server I ever play on, I shall try joining official servers now and report back.
Reporting back, I can join the official ones too, no problems. Its just too much of a coincidence really that a lot of players can still join Woozas while the ones having problems seem to be 4gb/32bit users. Also I error'd when I did the optimization thing, quite funny. I cant join my local server cause my files mismatch with my own files.
Your "outdated 32bit minority" happens to be the same crowd which started funding NS2 in the beginning - when we were assured that the game would run on these systems. Thank you very much.
And for you "reproducability" how about you compare 264 to the previous build, when we didn't have the problem - instead of putting the blame on users who "don't provide enough info" for FUCKS SAKE Here's my info: IT RAN FINE BEFORE THE LAST UPDATE
btw: Shanzems solution did not work for me. Problem persists, support failed.

I have many games which ran on very very old systems but got updates and now wont even boot on such a old system. As a gamer, do you really claim that as a reason? Really?
As a sidenote, did anyone who got this error actually bother to check if they ran out memory or if the application maxed out on memory, at the moment the error was produced?
Please note that for 32b users its 4GB in total. This is including videocard memory.

@Melancor
Oh you mean the system specs that were based off of an engine they didn't end up using, before pre ordering was available, let alone the release, a whole 7 years ago?....
Stop trying to create a problem. If you have nothing to contribute that is helpful, like your info, then you needn't bother posting. This is not general discussion, this is tech support, while you may be frustrated, you can take your attitude elsewhere.
Let this be your only warning.
What are you going to do? Ban me from the forums? Wow.
Please focus on the problem at hand. None of the "solutions" stated here seem to work, apparently you're just as helpless as I.
I'm gonna try that, all i can say for now:
it occus pretty often (every 1.5 map change)
- only on map change not on first connection after game start
- it is ALWAYS marine model file
- game needs complete restart to work again
- when bugged no connection to any server is possible (even official UWE servers)
- occus on servers with mods / without mods
my system specs:
Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q8400 @ 2.66 GhZ
4 GB of RAM
GeForce GTX 650
OS: Win7 with latest updates
(all other applications are closed while playing)
did anyone who got this error actually bother to check if they ran out memory or if the application maxed out on memory, at the moment the error was produced?.
@DC_Darkling
You may want to give instructions for those on how to do this, as many may not know how
@GorgeClooney
Seeing as you're the only one still attempting to diagnose this issue and provide data, do you know how to check what DC is suggesting?
DC_DarklingJoin Date: 2003-07-10Member: 18068Members, Constellation, Squad Five Blue, Squad Five Silver
Well lets start simple with the task manager.
Screenshot both ns2.exe in the processes tab aswell as the performance tab when the problem occurs, and lets see if more detailed looks are needed from there on.
At first I was like NO kodiak release not even more skinmodels so it crash the game.
But i start to doubt its purely related only to the memory.
I mean I can jump on survival of the fattest server and do toons of mapchange without crashes and it has A TON of mods installed. Like all kind of shine mods, badges, and so on. And probably most of the official servers without problem.
on DB d u m b a s s I can join but crash on mapchange by some weird reason.
and on thirsty onos server I can join fine when there are no mods installed, but as soon as shine admin comes on I fail at 6% female marine skin bla bla concistency check failed bla bla maybe a new update came out please recheck memory bla bla message.
So how come some server can have shine mod installed and I get no female marine consistency check failed and can play without problem, but on some server I get female marine consistency check failed?
Id take a guess and say it has something to do with consistency check and the mod "shine" or maybe all together how NS2 handle mods and possibly general memory handling in the game.
Maybe some mod setting make the game do some loops or something.
Ohh I forgot to mention, when I try to optimize the game cause of the Kodiak release, I also get consistency check failed. So maybe check the consistency check aint bugged, please developers.
I would guess that you probably got a bad copy of that file, please remove it and verify your steam cache, steam should download a new copy at that point.
1/On 1st time connect load a map on server , you play fine
2/When server change map >> press ~ console key (near key number 1 on your keyboard)
3/Type in console "quit"
4/ Re start NS2 from Steam
5/Open console ~ again , type "reconnect"

@Airwolf_swe you should ask @GhoulofGSG9 to do some tests with you to isolate whether its shine or your memory?
Also have you tried any of the things listed in this thread? To include memtest and monitoring whether you are running out of memory??
Would be really useful data to have... bonus points if you provide your tech support file.

If it would be a out of memory issue he would also run out of memory at my own server. I would say that there is some consistency check issue with the marine models, because my server doesn't check those (to allow custom skins, faster consistency check and because there is no real reason to check them ).
Maybe @Airwolf_swe should also validate his gamefiles throught steam just to be on the safe side.
A wild guess of mine would be that those server + Airwolf use some kind of outdated consistency check config as he is also able to join the official servers.
Therefor @Airwolf_swe could you post also your ConsistencyCheck.json from your %Appdata%\Natural Selection 2\ beside the log.txt after a failed mapchange.
How shine should interfer with skins i don't have any idea so far.
Well if your server dont have consistency check then I think there is something wrong with the NS2 consistencycheck. Cause ive nuked my entire NS2 several times. NS2 folder including all the appdata under windows.
@GhoulofGSG9
You can take a look at my consistencycheck.json from now, when I just join official servers. I renamde the ending to txt, or else the site wouldnt allow me to upload it. so just rename the ending.
@Goliath Vietnam ctrl + alt + del is quicker or just avoid all thoose servers
@IronHorse ive done memtest in the beginning of computer purchase, but if my memory is faulty why would it be isolated to some specific servers?
Take a look at the screenshot what happens when I try to join Thirsty onos server and crash at exactly 6% precaching.
Im NOT maxed out on memory at all. When I play on thoose official server, the memory go higher than here when I crash.
As Always when I trie to join thirsty onos server with the shine admin mod installed:
Crash at exactly 6% precaching
I attached my tech report before. its the same problem same computer.
----
As I said I have no problems at all to join Survival of the fattest server, even though there are tons of shine mod and other mods installed. Maybe I would crash if he turned on consistencycheck on his server though, that we could try someday if you want to @GhoulofGSG9
Thirsty Onos Servers use the default consistency check. I think I posted the .json earlier in this thread. Let me know if you want me to change any setting or test something.

@SupaFred Would you mind removing "*.model", from your server's .json file for just 24 hours so @Airwolf_swe can test it?
If you both get far enough testing this, and can coordinate, afterwards try no shine mod installed on the server, but again using the default consistency check (including model files)
Also, could both of you upload your male.model file?
Meaning, I want to compare Thirsty Onos server's model file with Airwolf's client file.
It's a large file so be sure to compress it first before uploading it somewhere to the internet (like drop box link etc)

Ingame name same as Forum name
Which two folders?
I deleted the following
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Natural Selection 2\core\lua
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Natural Selection 2\ns2\lua
I then Verified the game cache integrity and allowed it to require the missing folders.
Taken from here :
steamcommunity.com/app/4920/discussions/0/540734255087499500/
The only problem i seem to have now is NS2 not downloading player made maps and now and then mods.
"Missing mod required" (Not downloading) and "Missing map" this does this with the map ns2_Triad i even subscribed in workshop through steam but never downloaded.
EDIT: Found original thread!
As a sidenote, did anyone who got this error actually bother to check if they ran out memory or if the application maxed out on memory, at the moment the error was produced?
Please note that for 32b users its 4GB in total. This is including videocard memory.
Please focus on the problem at hand. None of the "solutions" stated here seem to work, apparently you're just as helpless as I.
@GorgeClooney did you try memtest64+ ?? If not try to let it run for a night and see if you have any bad RAM-sticks.
it occus pretty often (every 1.5 map change)
- only on map change not on first connection after game start
- it is ALWAYS marine model file
- game needs complete restart to work again
- when bugged no connection to any server is possible (even official UWE servers)
- occus on servers with mods / without mods
my system specs:
Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q8400 @ 2.66 GhZ
4 GB of RAM
GeForce GTX 650
OS: Win7 with latest updates
(all other applications are closed while playing)
You may want to give instructions for those on how to do this, as many may not know how
@GorgeClooney
Seeing as you're the only one still attempting to diagnose this issue and provide data, do you know how to check what DC is suggesting?
Screenshot both ns2.exe in the processes tab aswell as the performance tab when the problem occurs, and lets see if more detailed looks are needed from there on.
1/On 1st time connect load a map on server , you play fine
2/When server change map >> press ~ console key (near key number 1 on your keyboard)
3/Type in console "quit"
4/ Re start NS2 from Steam
5/Open console ~ again , type "reconnect"
Profit ) And its faster than waitting
@GhoulofGSG9
You can take a look at my consistencycheck.json from now, when I just join official servers. I renamde the ending to txt, or else the site wouldnt allow me to upload it. so just rename the ending.
@Goliath Vietnam ctrl + alt + del is quicker or just avoid all thoose servers
@confused yes Ive done that like 20times already
@IronHorse ive done memtest in the beginning of computer purchase, but if my memory is faulty why would it be isolated to some specific servers?
Take a look at the screenshot what happens when I try to join Thirsty onos server and crash at exactly 6% precaching.
Im NOT maxed out on memory at all. When I play on thoose official server, the memory go higher than here when I crash.
As Always when I trie to join thirsty onos server with the shine admin mod installed:
Crash at exactly 6% precaching

Compiling 'materials/infestation/infestation_shell.surface_shader'
Error: File 'models/marine/male/male.model' failed consistency check!
Thank you both, this will help out greatly
Ok here are my questions :
@SupaFred Could you use my consistencycheck.json for a while: https://gist.github.com/BrightPaul/37790ba1c0ea64f64707 ?
@Airwolf_swe Can you maybe check with this tool ( http://www.winmd5.com/ ) that the md5 hash of your male.model is 7bd7a74b1c39045e2d3bfcc670a0163c ?
