Played 1.04e not long ago. About 12 games...mostly alien.
Honestly I never once used a fade, lerk, or onos. Simply skulk with carapace. Noticed I was a little easier to kill with level 3 carapace, but nothing super substantial, but I could see how it might be annoying to a larger target that isn't supposed to die every other second like a fade or Onos.
The adding of 10 resources to the fades cost delayed their entrance into combat after 2 hives were up....leading to some very close shaves as the marines were coming close to killing our hives and we had nothing to contend with the jetpacks and heavy machineguns at that point.
Basically it left a 2 minute window of opportunity where they were absolutely uncontested in technology, but with a little luck and a few good skulks we were usually able to keep them off of our hives long enough to have several fades start forming.
