So the devs have confirmed that while Subnautica will be using Unity 4, they are still developing Spark. I'm curious to know, will these new developments in Spark be trickling down to NS2, or will we have to wait for a new game? I'm mostly concerned about the map editor. I've learned a lot since starting with it back in August of last year, but there are still a lot of features on my wish list.

I assume any improvements to the Spark engine will automatically be distributed to all games using Spark.

This isn't how engine and game improvements work, but in NS2's case it will probably receive the updates, as long as UWE wants to keep improving it.

By any improvements I meant general ones (or specific) that will benefit NS2. Not new features that will be useless to NS2 but beneficial to a new game.

I would assume they would do this anyway, pretty sure source games still get updates, so it's not like you abandon old games of the same engine.

I know, but even general engine improvements are usually not rolled out to older games as it often requires modification of the game itself.

(no, HL2 hasnt been updated with the latest version of source that say portal 2 is on. Some valve games HAVE been updated for their linux port but thats an entirely different issue.)

Not sure. Doubt it even has the ending on it, probably just cuts off.

I know a guy who knows a guy who said the engine has branched off from the NS2 version. What really needs to change is the model system as collada is no fun to work with. so if they've drastically changed that importing the animations, models on a new system could be quite and undertaking/bottle neck on porting it over i guess.... and probably why it wont be ported straight to the newer versions any time soon.

It's really not, it's fine. It's the lua that's the problem.

Well personally I think it's amazing what such a small team has been able to accomplish. I just wish the editor would get some more love now and then. :(

overall ns2 performance is acceptable. But yeah, the editor needs some work.

it's their fault for choosing Lua aka Java lag fest?

..Yes it is their "fault" since they chose to use it. Lua is not also known as java btw. It's lua.

Well, when you make a bad decision and screw up your franchise, hmm yeah, it IS kinda your fault?
