As slowly the year 2013 ends i feel that we need another "squad" programm to show off active modding/mapping etc. projects somehow and honor their creators. Most of them spent alot of their freetime in those project and it's kind of a pity not many ppl know about those projects.
I'm not asking for any kind of reward just for a oportunity to show off project to the public because this is quiet hard atm. So many of the "new ppl" don't have a idea that there are pretty awesome things made by the community.
So what do you guys (and ofc @hugh ) think about bringing this kind of thing back to life in 2014.
Maybe start with a best community projects 2013 award thing.

What I think the modding needs is a dedicated team of people who offer their free time to projects. Like my original mod beans collective project, where we had game programmers, web developers, artists and others involved, all working together to promote and create the mods.
I think I need to try and start Mod Beans again, get a team of coders, modelers, video makers, artists, web developers, etc, working together to assist each other with mods and promotions. We originally thought Squad 5 was going to be something like that, but it never really happened.
I've still got the domain, but it is not hosted currently, I need to get that set up again...
In fact this is something i would support.
But the main reason i started this thread is because there is missing any way to make your mod /project popular. That's the reason i would never start a gamemode mod, it's so much work and getting ppl to play it is ways to hard. When i asked ppl at my server if they know e.g the faded mod, i got in 98% a answer like "no what's that?" . And that's sad imho.
So i thought let's give it a try maybe more community members feel the same way and we get uwe to help us. Squad 5 kinda died suddently. Idk why they stopped it.
And afaik the Modbox servers are mostly there to give modders a chance to test their mods somewhere. But now ask ppl, do you know there are official modded server, ....
I know i'm not good at naming things . Took "Squad 6" for now so ppl know what i want.
Modbox servers without introducing them to the public won't help that much. Also not all community projects can be shown off that way ....
I see the Modbox server as first step in the right direction.
I 100% agree.
Still have working Combat(as working as it will be) Last Stand, Faded I'm pretty sure, Factions, Classic, and yet, people still only barely play combat and never play the other ones. I blame the unknowingness of 90% of people. Can't tell you how many people join a served and don't even know it's combat..........
It's not only this, also ppl are just not aware that those gamemodes exist.
Right now, the working mods are Classic, Combat and Proving Grounds with the recent update as well as Factions of course.
There is a huge issue with keeping these mods up to scratch for play.
Not to mention these mods haven't gotten any official attention at all and that the descriptions and screenshots are all lost in threads in the Modding sub-forum. I have been working on a comprehensive guide to mods in NS2, but too many of them are just broken unfortunately
Not supporting combat = big mistake tbh. I have a feeling there is a huge number of players who left the game never to return, because there was no way to have fun and play around learning with the higher lifeforms.
Without any data or help from community members you will never track down the cause of the hitching.
As for Last Stand, I didn't know about the 2.0 Last Stand that you published and I'm gonna give that a go tomorrow. I must have had an old ModID!
They (uwe) already stated that they won't focus that much at modding at SN. To make NS2 as much modable as possible was one of the main aspect of development of ns2 during the beta.
And now as ns2 slowly reaches a stabil state where you don't have to fear to start over with every build as modders, it's kinda the time to help the creative community to get back to where it was.
Just look around and see how many ppl are working currently in this field. To give you a guess: Mostly all projects look for more devs/help.
