NS2_Bast remake

Hey guys,

Tried searching for forum for previous posts all I could come up with was old NS1 posts, title is self explanatory!

Does anyone remember that marvelous map back in NS1 days, the artistic and technical beauty that was put into making that map, would anyone be up to the challenge to recreate it again?

Would love to roam those dark corridors to reach feedwater hive or refinery again, some of my finest NS1 memories were forged on this map, (siegeing feedwater hive from tram tunnel if thats what it was called?, jumping into the water and trying to making it to the other side before you drowned!".

The dark atmospheric corridors filled with claustophobia and them vents you could crawl around in waiting for some terrifying skulk lurking around the corner waiting to pounce on you!

Please would someone bring this masterpiece back to life *cough* mendasp for example *cough*.

I will sacrifice a hundred kitten in your honor!

- yojimbo

I'm not mapping anymore. I'm just doing little fixes for Summit/Veil, but that doesn't even count as mapping.

Damn thats a shame, you was good at it! Can you recommended anyone else who would take a stab at it? Surely I cant be the only one that wants this beauty remade in all of NS2's graphical light!

its possible to decompile the original to get the ns2-level out of it.

    proof of concept:

ns_bast.bsp - (untextured mode with lights)
    oR7nYdc.jpg
    ns_bast.level - (default ns2 dev-textures, no lights)

Not sure if bast will fit the balance needs.
I mean there are huge rooms like refinery in there. Any port will have to change a lot of things from the original.

Bast is definitely a classic that needs a remake, though since it's an NS1 map it has the usual problems.

Tram Tunnel would be a shooting gallery, Refinery is too big, places with doors and elevators would need to be recreated, vents would need to be moved around since you can't weld them anymore, and the large underwater tunnel would probably be removed.(Since NS2 has no water.)

    P.S. I'd prefer NS_Origin.

I think if you look a little harder you might find this

    http://forums.unknownworlds.com/discussion/130726/ns-bast-community-remake#latest

as for caged its flaterectomy that is doing that map :D

While it will be nice to see old school ns1 maps return they are unable to be a 100% carbon copy of the old ones due to newer play styles.

I seriously don't know why more people (or anyone for this matter) use watermod. It's indestructible, survived since build 249 without having to be fixed. Has screen filter for water, changeable materials and everything. #-o

Well, probably because it's a mod. Maps with mod dependencies probably are perceived as a hassle. Plus because it's a mod, even people using the editor aren't likely to know it exists.

Then again, I dunno. Maybe it can be forwarded to UWE so they include it into the game. Also combine it with the trigger pain entity so you can have swimmable lava.

Honestly, Bast was one of the worst ns1 maps. I think it's best if it stays in ns1.

Personally I loved it. Same with Hera and Nothing.

@BoRRiS I've already done a couple of room mockups so if you want to get together and discuss just shoot me a message.

the DEVS didnt implement "real water".
what you see ingame is a wall with a water-texture/material, means:
-you cant walk into the water ( its a wall, so you always walk on top of it)
    -you cant swim in water
-there are no water / damage (no air) effects

    == Why ?

unknownworlds are using a new, own engine so the water implementation was not on top of the priority list.

    == Workaround: Water-Mod (NS2-Workshop)

There is a water mod out there, but:
    1. not many know this
    2. not many are using this (as a mapper you need to setup the mod to get access from the spark editor)
    3. its not official (could be broken with new Builds. Since the first version of the mod in b249 (i believe) there were no errors/problems in later builds)

== Will it be implemented in the future as official ?

No, the devs are working on a new *secret* project.

The stuff they are working on (as i know):
    -cory: art assets for eclipse
    -mappers: eclipse map
-sewlek: balance & small changes (alien vision, ...) <- "small" doesnt mean its not a lot of work!

btw: its not a "dumb" question, it´s a good question :)
