I had heard about ns2 years ago but the prevailing perception among my online buddies seemed to be that it has major performance issues so I stayed away until the other day when I saw people discussing the bundle and I figured what the hell, worst case scenario I get some other games with it. It was not even the price tag vs the risk of it being unplayable that kept me away...it was that I did not want to set myself up for disappointment because I loved ns1 so much.
I'm pretty jazzed about it being playable, ns kind of left a hole no other game has really filled, and ruined other FPS's for me so I am happy to be here, better late then never!
I don't know what kind of advertising you do but I bet there are plenty of folks like me who were scared away by performance concerns who would come over if they knew it was stable and fleshed out ect.

Are there any other games that are closer to NS1 than NS2 is?
NS2 is not like ns1 but it's the closest thing to it. Yes there have been alot of changes but not all of them are that bad.
To answer your question ns2 performance is not perfect but it has improved pretty much over the last year, so just give it a try and see yourself.
Nice how you derail someone making a compliment into (yet another) complain / bitch / nostalgia bullshit thread.
Cuz one has skulks and the other.... well... does. But one has fades and the other.... does... One has an economy system and a commander and the other... Oh yeah it does too. OH BUT ONE HAS MARINES! Oh wait...
Totally nothing like each other though, you're right.

Tremulous.
Certainly dont mean to be cynical in any way but its likely a large number of those purchases are for the other games in the bundle and the sad truth of it is a great deal of the NS2 copies that have gone out with the bundle may never even be installed.
That being said it as the OP suggested maybe with a little bit of advertising/discussion in the right places we can get a bunch of people to at least give it a go, no doubt once they get a taste of that sweet NS2 goodness they will stick around for more
I know a couple of people are trying to get a thread about the NS2WC noticed in http://www.reddit.com/r/Games so if people want to throw it an upvote maybe we can spark some interest.
I'm sorry but have you actually played NS1? There is no khammander, gorges build everything, and many other things.
Yeah that could work. But in any case, you will mostly see casual gamers "sticking" to this game.
Have you? Because aliens not having a commander and a few different abilities, upgrades, and weapons doesn't mean that NS2 'isn't anything like NS1'.
That's like saying Modern Warfare 3 isn't anything like Modern Warfare 2 because they added a few guns and changed some killstreaks and perks around.
I would've hoped that Totalbiscuit would have done some coverage of the game especially during the humble bundle, he has praised it greatly in every steam sale yet seems to be apprehensive about doing a dedicated video of NS2.
"...and many other things."
Because that doesn't change the fact that the core concept is the same, which debunks your bogus claim that they are nothing alike.
